The latest word is that James Cavanaugh the Acting Fire Chief will be out. It seems he has made the fatal mistake of saying that he would run the department as a professional and not be subject to political considerations. Big mistake. (See Jay Cybart).
So where oh where will we get a new Fire Chief? Why, our good friend Edmund Winterbottom (HR Director) has the answer. The micro-managing Bridgeport Fire Chief Brian Rooney. If anyone knows how to play the political game and kiss the correct part of the anatomy it is Edmund Winterbottom.
Now you may ask why Mr. Rooney would take a cut in pay to become Stratford’s Fire Chief? Silly citizen. He will be collecting his pension from Bridgeport AND a paycheck from Stratford. And all he has to do is whatever Miron tells him to do.

Jeze commented that a Fire Chief is collecting a Pension and a pay
check, not dissimilar to a certain former deputy police chief, and
a former police chief, and goodness how many others?
Update:
It looks like we were wrong. And that is a good thing. Let us wish Cavanaugh luck and keep politics out of the FD.

A nationwide search for a new fire chief found a candidate close to home.
James J. Cavanaugh, who has served as interim chief of the Stratford Fire Department for the past four months, has been hired on a permanent basis.
The hiring was announced Tuesday by Mayor James R. Miron and other administration members during a press conference in Council Chambers in Town Hall. Miron said a swearing-in ceremony will be scheduled at a later date, most likely within the next 30 days.
WTF???

OK George… this is the ONE time I will agree with you that space aliens have stolen our mayor and replaced him with a look-a-like!!!
Cybart has come to Town Council Meetings and spoken during Public Forum.
He has not over played his position.
He underplays his position,
Pointing out a past projected cost for a Fire Truck should have happened for
$ 450,000 and now Bonds for $ 670,000 (up almost 50 %) has made Cybart look
as a legit person and the Mayor look like his position was pretextual.
I predicted Cybart would retire, before the Mayor’s Kangaroo Administrative
Hearing, and it became true.
Did not make Cybart look good!
Made Mayor / Town Attorney look correct and Cybart look bad.
Public Forum, is not a CONTROLLED ENTITY, like COURT or ADMINISTRATIVE …
