‘Rowdy’ nightclub allowed to reopen

STRATFORD — Nearly 18 months after zoning officials closed down what they described as a “rowdy” Ferry Boulevard nightclub, the Zoning Commission voted 3-2 Tuesday night to approve an agreement between the owners and town officials to allow the club’s reopening.

The nightclub at Harborside Bar & Grille, on the Milford border, will be permitted to reopen for a 120-day trial period from March 1 to June 30, despite past violence, parking problems and noise that resulted in its closure.

Will it be safe? Maybe, maybe not. That will be up to the patrons and management.

But wait…there’s more (and it’s our favorite part). Who is looking out for our best interests? Why, it’s Kent Miller and Ben Proto!

In the blue corner:

“But attorney Kent Miller, representing the town, warned the commission “we’re not even sure the town can stop the club from reopening anyway.”

At $125 an hour. But you remember Mr. Miller don’t you? Former mayoral “aide” and Treasurer of the DTC? The attorney who was disciplined by the CT Bar and required to take accounting classes. Anyone care to guess how he got this particular gig?

And in the red corner:

“But with “stringent” new restrictions, lawyer Ben Proto, representing the restaurant, urged the commission Tuesday to allow the nightclub to reopen.

He said the accord between Harborside and several town authorities — including police, fire and the mayor’s office — would require more low-key entertainment like comedy acts, and elimination of “Hip-Hop” bands and celebrity DJ’s that bought in raucous crowds.”

You remember Mr. Proto don’t you? Former RTC member, CRC II Commission member who did everything he could to keep the position of mayor the way it is.

We are not sure how this will play out, but at least we know who is making the money no matter what.

You remember Mr. Proto don’t you? Former RTC member, CRC II Commission member who did everything he could to keep the position of mayor the way it is.

    From George:
Esq. Proto was also former attorney for State of CT..

Mr. Proto was also former Town R party town committee chair.

Esq. Proto was also former representative for Rich Fredette in Ethics
Charge by one of the EMS crew, who was a known friend of Calzone
and who was part of Gavin’s original Website.
(Yet Gavin seconded Fredette vs. Marcone, to replace Regitrar Dick. )

Esq. Proto was also former representative for Rich Fredette in Ethics
Charge by Fredette vs. Esq. Dick Burturla whereas Commissioner Rob
Chaloux had to recuse himself because Dick’s daughter worked for
Mr. Chaloux’s wife’s Day care, of which he is an officer?
    – I also learned Mrs. DeRose was Dick Miron’s HS Councilor and lifelong
friend, yet had no ethical problem being on the Ethics Commission.
    – Mr. Chaloux’ chaired the Ethics Commission and rewrote it.
If Esq. Proto as former representative for Rich Fredette in EthicsCharge
by Fredette vs. Esq. Dick Burturla had raised the RIGHT ISSUES, which I
KNEW they KNEW in the PENSION ETHICS defense of Fredette and counter
by Fredette, then Stratford’s Pension Fund might be fully funded like that
of Milford and Fairfield, and Esq, Burturla and friends might be disbarred and
serving time instead of kited TOWN ATTORNEY BILLS

Esq. Proto was also involved in assisting Esq. Avallone on the 630 Condos
on Lordship Blvd. Esq. Avallone rents space from Berchem and has a
    Berchem e-mail address.

Mr. Proto was also former the Campaign Manager of …. Jon.

Esq. Proto was also former C.R.C. 2 Member who wrote many of those
changes which were included for ratification.
He assisted Mr. Fredette & Esq, Florek at the Lovell Library room in
the explanation of the “new” charter as proposed. When I asked Esq.
Florek specific questions about the CT. GENERAL STATUTES, Esq. Proto
came back with the book of some of the CT. GENERAL STATUTES, that
    covered PART of the answer.
    > Latter I saw a posting that the Referendum were listed under the
CT. GENERAL STATUTES, but different section.

Esq. Proto was also former C.R.C. 2 Member who was involved in the
ability of the C. R. C. to raise the pay of any Mayor.
    – ex-Council Chair feehan pointed out there was a flaw in the Charter
in that it had NO MECHANISM for having a PAY RAISE.
    – Mayor Miron asked for Pay raise in the NEXT C. R. C. Meeting. He also
stated he had lunch with Mr. Feehan AFTER Mr. Feehan presented his
    “18 flaws to the C. R. C.”
    – Jon was at those C. R. C. Meetings and knew about those changes.
    – I asked Dom to come out against the C. R. C. and to go to the meetings.
Dom refused. Dom distanced himself from the BASIS of Town government
    which a Mayor runs.

    – Henrick proposed and DOM, JON, & MIRON blathered against the raise
    of Mayor’s pay by 50 % to $ 135,000.
    – All of them KNEW or should have known – at the time, that Charter had
ZERO ability to give ANY RAISE to a MAYOR …. never mind 50 %.

Above are some of the reasons, I can not endorse Jon, despite my
praise for him for EMS and as an individual.

Similar reasons, I can not support Gavin.

Similar reasons, I can not support Fredette.

Similar reasons, I can not support Harkins.

Similar reasons, I can not support Dom.

Similar reasons, I can not support Miron.

Similar reasons, I can not support Bill O’Brien, who never shows up
to Town Council Meetings, although Jon does, with Dom, Calzone,
Fredette and others making guest appearances.
    > I can NEVER remember seeing Harkins at a Council Meeting.
    > Gavin is the sharpest Councilor. That cuts both ways = nonfeasance or
    misfeasance or malfeasance?

ALL know far more than they have exposed to the Public.

Monday night 10 – 15 members of the VFW came forward to speak to
a Tax Break for Veterans, which the honorable Mayor proposed.

If I heard correctly, the Senior Citizen and Veteran tax breaks were
both voted down by obdurious Republicans dominated votes.

If I heard correctly, the Senior Citizen and Veteran tax breaks would
have been reimbursed by the State of CT. Grants. (At least major parts.)

If I heard correctly, the Senior Citizen tax breaks had been $ 1.6 million
with only $ 1.3 somethin million used from the Budget with over $ 200 k
being used for other things to balance the Budget.

The honorable mayor honestly answered that he had sent out letters,
in his capacity as mayor, to advise people of the pending vote ….
    – Miron standing up for poor and Vets, made him look good.
    – The Council voting against low income and Vets, made Miron look
good. Please see my letter – Political Science Fiction about whole
    truth and political pretext?
