Shots Fired Over Penders Field

20Apr09

Bring it, Mr. Mayor.

We are constantly amazed at the number of times and ways Mayor Moron can blame anyone and everyone but himself when it comes to getting anything done. For entertainment purposes (or those of you who actually live near Longbrook Park or go to SHS games) we have posted the latest shots fired between Mayor Moron and his favorite targets, the Town Council and that “backstabber” Gavin Forrester III.

Subject: Penders Field.

Bob,

I agree that Penders Field needs the work you outlined in your e-mail to
Phil Handy…

…Councilman Gavin Forrester successfully led the effort to remove the
$750,000 from being funding that I proposed for Penders Field last year.
Councilman Forrester stated, and I am paraphrasing, that the issues were
unknown to him and the Longbrook Park Commission and that more input from
the neighbors who lived in the neighborhood and approval by the Longbrook
Park Commission would have occur before he could support such a project and
expenditure. Please note that the moving of any field was not part of any
administration proposed plan as I now hearing some Council members are
claiming.

To date I am unaware if Coucilman Forrester has taken any steps relative to
addressing these issues from his position as Chairman of the Longbrook Park
Commission and Coucilman for the Penders Field neighborhood….

The rest is some boring election year drivel.

Interesting note: Of the 11 people CC’d on this 7 of them were hired by Miron and 4 of them work only a few feet away (McCauley, Castater, Wilson and Pelligra). Who was not sent the email? Anyone on the Council (which Miron obviously cannot spell), and especially that “backstabber” Gavin Forrester III.

And now for the reality check:

Mr. Mayor;

Had you bothered to attend any Longbrook Park Commission Meeting, or send any individual or organization to attend a Commission Meeting, to raise any issues or concerns regarding the conditions of the playing fields and or explain your proposal to the commission or Town Council you might have received a more favorable response.

Once again it shows your true lack of communication between your administration and the Town Council which has plagued your administration.

Sincerely;

Gavin B. Forrester III
Third District Town Council Member

We can’t wait to see who Miron blames for needing a new HVAC system at Stratford High. My guess would be Irene Cornish first. Everything else is her fault according to Miron.

I’m confused… I thought I read last week in the Post that the work at Longbrook Park was all set to begin in June?!?!?!

Maybe we can get this resolved by staging a WWF or WWE
    tag team or handicap Match?

Councilman Henrich supposedly smacked a Penders field
football ref (supposedly in the head from behind) at a # 1
    District Fundraiser.
The Ref griped to him about Penders field compared to the
Bunnell field money is no object….

Gavin and Miron had a little shouting match a few months ago.

Since I would be rooting against Jimbo and Henrick, maybe it
could be a tag team match?
Although I could foresee both of them wanting to avoid the tag. 🙂

    As previously blogged

    1. Early 1999 I told Burturla that Stratford HS with 30 % fewer
students was costing 60 % more to HEAT,
I was working off the 3 – 4 prior years from LIBRARY REFERENCE
    BUDGET.
    Back then I paid 50, 52, 58, & 60 Cent a Gallon for Heating Oil.
    Gasoline was a little over $ 1.
    Diesel was somewhere in between.

Until recently Gasoline was much cheaper than Heating Oil or
Diesel, yet both cost less to create.

Only after BUNNELL has BOILER problems, does the Clowncil pay
    attention to STRATFORD HS HVAC.

Some people suggest to tear down Shakespeare.
Stratford HS is is as bad shape, from what I am told as far as
    cost effectiveness to repair?

    Sudds,

Longbrook park (the dredging, refilling with beer and planting blondes) is a different issue than fixing Penders Field.

  5. 5 sudds

What’s wrong with Pender’s Field? (to me it looks better than any field I ever played on in high school or college!)

And how on God’s green earth is $750,000 needed for the field? They can plow it over (they already HAVE the machinery) and re-sod the whole thing for under $200k, no??? Or is this factoring $500k in legal fees that will be deemed “necessary” with the upgrades!?!?!?

  6. 6 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“They can plow it over (they already HAVE the machinery) and re-sod the whole thing for under $200k, no???”

You’re kidding, right? Nothing is simple in Stratford.

    Subject: Penders Field

    Dear Councilman Forrester:

Several town residents brought the condition of Penders Field to my
attention. As a result of those contacts I requested that the Public Works
Director, Mr. McCarthy, and the Superintendent of Parks, Mr. Handy, perform
an onsite inspection of the area in question.
The following items will be corrected as soon as they can be scheduled (I am
    tracking them in my office):
    1) Leveling of infield and replacement
    * The clay/sand mix that is used is what was requested by various
teams and the school. It is more expensive that the usual mix.
    * The lips will be corrected when the field is shut down at the end of
the season. It cannot be done now due to heavy scheduling.
    * The mound appears to be in appropriate condition for play.
    2) Permanent home run fence in left field
    * A permanent fence can be installed as soon as scheduling permits.
    3) Remove clay in left field and replace with grass
    * The clay will be removed and replaced with turf.
    * Flooding should be alleviated by removal of the clay.
    4) Dugout roof needs to be fixed
    * We are in the process of replacing the roof this week.
    5) Lights need to be fixed
    * We will obtain estimates from an outside contractor to relamp all
fixture. Due to the fact that the field has never been relamped since
installation it is better to change all the lamps. Cost for this is unknown
at this time. We will begin the estimating as soon as possible.
    * All the lights cannot be turned on at once. When the lighting system
was designed it was set up for dual function baseball and football. If all
the lights were turned on at once the main breaker would trip on overload.
There is not enough power to handle all at once.
    Other requests
    * There does not appear to be enough space to accommodate an enclosed
    batting cage.
    * We need further clarification as to extending the fence in foul
territory along first and third base. What is really needed?
    * There is very limited room to install press box storage. The only
likely place is west of the big bleachers between the light pole.
Additionally, Mr. Handy recommends having the landscape architect that is
doing the study and design for Longbrook Park look at this area perform an
assessment. He thinks that separating the field use would go a long way in
maintaining the fields. A football field could be installed north of
Glendale Road and the baseball field kept south of Glendale Road in it’s
present location. Additionally, paved parking areas could be installed.

Also, drainage work has to be considered for the north field area to
alleviate the continuous flooding. The amount considered $750,000.00 for 2
years would go a long way in making these improvements.
As to the previous paragraph we will need to bring this matter to the full
Town Council’s attention ASAP and any action will be up to them.
    Have a great day.

There is also this leftover piece from Mayor Moron’s first email:

“Please note that the moving of any field was not part of any administration proposed plan as I now hearing some Council members are claiming.”

So…let’s guess in which email he was lying.

Hmmm…wage freezes for all and a $750,000 ball field? Considering how well he gets along with the Council, this should be no problem at all. Nothing like a little sweet talk to move things along. (Of course the students that actually use the field will be freezing their butts off in class when the boilers fail again).

I am 154,396.9% in favor of any/all necessary improvements at Longbrook Park/Penders field! However…

    A) “The clay/sand mix that is used is what was requested by various
teams and the school. It is more expensive that the usual mix.”

My high school baseball field had more weeds than dirt… and we played just fine. so why the @#$5 do we NEED the expensive mix?

    B) “Permanent home run fence in left field
    * A permanent fence can be installed as soon as scheduling permits.”

As soon as scheduling permits? WTF??? Am I wrong or aren’t the people who use this field still in school from 8-2 (or so)? How about doing this… oh I don’t know… WHILE SCHOOL IS IN SESSION!?!?!

    C) Remove clay in left field and replace with grass
    * The clay will be removed and replaced with turf.
    * Flooding should be alleviated by removal of the clay.

Home Depot had sod on sale this weekend… order a pallet and get a town employee to lay it down… we’re already paying the emploee(s), so total cost… $300 (+/- $100)

    D) “We will obtain estimates from an outside contractor to relamp all
fixture…. it is better to change all the lamps”

I actually can’t argue with this!

    E) “All the lights cannot be turned on at once. When the lighting system
    was designed…”

Someone please help me out here… baseball = spring/football = fall… and they SHARE a field, no? So, when exactly would you NEED to turn them both on?

    F) “There does not appear to be enough space to accommodate an enclosed
    batting cage”

BATTING CAGE? WTF? Is this Stratford High or the New York Yankees? Oh wait, not even the Yankees have a batting cage!

    G) “We need further clarification as to extending the fence in foul
territory along first and third base. What is really needed?”

Answer: NOTHING! There is NO reason to extend the fence…move on please!

    H) “There is very limited room to install press box storage”

AND? What press? The Post? The Star? Do they REALLY need storage? Besides, aren’t they usually stored neatly up the mayor’s a___???

    I) “Additionally, Mr. Handy recommends having the landscape architect that is
doing the study and design for Longbrook Park look at this area perform an
    assessment”

Once again… WTF??? Is the architecht Mr. Hardy’s wife/brother/lover/etc? It’s a baseball field for cripes sake! We used to draw them with chalk on our street… why the @#$% would we need an architect???

    J) “A football field could be installed north of Glendale Road and the baseball field kept south of Glendale Road in it’spresent location”

Dear lord up above… note to the morons in charge… THEY HAVE SEPERATE SEASONS… THERE IS NO NEED FOR SEPERATE FIELDS!!! If professional teams can share a field why can’t Stratford High?

    K) “Additionally, paved parking areas could be installed.”

That’ll go along great with restoring the beauty to Longbrook Park, right you stupid @#$%^’s!!!

    L) “The amount considered $750,000.00 for 2 years would go a long way in making these improvements.”

TWO YEARS? I can do this myself in 2 days!!!

OK… I’m done venting now… I hearby authorize any/all Councilmembers/press to legally plagarize my points above. Actually forget about authorize… I beg that you use them!

PS… taxpayers of Stratford… feel free to thank me for savign each of you a few bucks that would have otherwise been wasted!!!

  8. 8 jezebel282

    Here’s an idea;

Let’s move Town Hall closer to Sudd’s house. Then he’ll care what goes on there too.

  9. 9 sudds

no thanks… I support LESS firearms in my immediate neighborhood!!! 😛

  10. 10 jezebel282

    Sudds,

There is always DeLuca field. That looks to be in pretty nice shape. But it’s not within walking distance of your house.

  11. 11 sudds

But is DeLuca field still going to be there after bridgeport re-routes Main Street???

  12. 12 jezebel282

    Sudds,

It should be. Apparently the closer to your house the more holy the ground becomes.

  13. 13 sudds

TRUE! Except for the fact that I am all for leveling EVERYTHING south of Barnum Ave (inclusive)!!!

  14. 14 sudds

PS… my diatribe was NOT because of my home’s proximity to Longbrook Park… (prior rants were, but that work is beginning in June supposedly, but I digress…)

In fact it was actually AGAINST most of the so-called “improvements” in an effort to curtail wasteful spending!!!

  15. 15 jezebel282

    Sudds,

The only way to curtail wasteful spending is in November. Hey, why don’t you run for council and Booth can be your campaign manager this time?

  16. 16 sudds

I am but a lowly avator in an overly corrupt town hoping to score a no-show job at the train station!!!

Heck, I’m not even registered as a Dem or Repub, and lord knows I would NEVER (unless the aformentioned job was offered) even contribute to the campaigns of these jamokes!!!

Booth as my campaign manager… hmmm… NO!!! 😛

  17. 17 sudds

Besides… George Mulligan lives in 3rd too… and he’d be ALMOST as good of a Councilman as I would. So why bother with 2 independent candidates?!?!?!

PS… in case you missed it… that last line was directed at you Mr. Best!!! (unless, of course, you’re will to talk about that no-show job at the train station)

  18. 18 jezebel282

    Sudds,

Just think of all the fund raising golf tournaments and beer! They are all tax deductions during your campaign.

  19. 19 1george1

PS… taxpayers of Stratford… feel free to thank me
for savign each of you a few bucks that would have
    otherwise been wasted!!!

    Yo Sudds,

Regardless of merit or lack thereof, thank you
for trying to save tax payer money.

Please say hello to Eric. I think he wanted good
things for the town but decided it is wiser to
    just go along.

    —-

Despite the fact I have nailed the BoE on occasion,
I also have given them their due.
I do NOT know where I went wrong, but I am less hated
    there than in town hall?

No less than 8 former Town Hall Management people
have “happened” to pass by me in Shopping Centers
and other places and said hi to me.
I ask them who the are?
They tell me they work or worked in the miron town hall.
For reasons unknown to me, they seem to like or resepect me?

Even though I bust em on Jim, he gives me respect.
    At least to my face,
