    Editor’s Note:

Once again we lament the absence of Best, Costello, Harkins and Moron Miron.

In our opinion, if you want to be a leader, occasionally you have to lead.

  2. 2 sudds

Not for nothing, but don’t these people realize that our economy is in the crapper and 100’s of thousands of people have lost their jobs recently? And that their raise would equal higher taxes for people already struggling to survive? Is NOW really the ideal time to be protesting for a $0.35 an hour raise???

    Ps… Who is that little kid’s “Mommy”… she’s CUTE!!!

  3. 3 jezebel282

    Sudds,

    Mayor’s Secretary $36,033 (+12%)$45,000
    CAO $90,000 (+8%)$97,824
    HR Director $85,750 (+5%)$90,884
    Town Clerk $68,500 (+10%)$75,542
    Finance Director $95,000 (+8%)$102,723
    Asst Finance Director $77,500 (+10%)$85,560
    Assessor $79,167 (+8%)$85,760
    Public Works Director $97,000 (+6%)$102,273
    Police Chief $97,000 (+6%)$102, 723

    Kent Miller’s pay
Note: In addition to the $64,356 Miller was paid in 2008 there is another $22,403 he was paid as a RR supervisor of a $30,325 clerk. That is a grand total $86,759 for Treasurer of the Democratic Town Committee.

    Berchem Moses and Devlin’s pay
Note: The $677,872* was only the amount paid as of Dec 31, 2008. We do not know what BMD will bill in 2009 yet.

But let us remember Miron’s campaign slogan: Wages freezes for everyone (else)!

    A couple of other points:

Many of the union members have spouses that have lost their jobs and are sole providers now.
Most of the unions have foregone raises for 3.5 years when there were “surpluses”.
NONE of the unions trust Miron to not fire them or lay them off anyway if they take zeros.
Taking zeros is only a campaign tactic. Miron didn’t care when he raised taxes 25+% for the last 3 years. Over half of the union members ARE Stratford residents and taxpayers.

Last point: How many contracts have you signed and then decided (on your own) to change the terms, conditions and payments?

  4. 4 nnanerak

Your last point is right on target.
Has anyone heard any discussion on a billboard that potentially may go up detailing all the screw ups of the 1st mayoral term to encourage people to get out to vote and not waste their vote??? I heard someone was working on one( it is going to make national news for sure if they pull it off). Personally I can’t think of any billboard in town that is big enough to hold all that. I heard that it is NOT being sponsored by ANY of the potential candidates we know of to date but by a group that is only looking to restore ethics and respect to the public offices. Just curious if anyone else has heard about this–I have not been able to substantiate this yet, haven’t had the time.

  5. 5 jezebel282

    nnan,

“on a billboard that potentially may go up detailing all the screw ups of the 1st mayoral term”

    Err…have you noticed THIS website?

  6. 6 nnanerak

    Duh…
I am referring to the good old fashioned drive by version, the type that is in your face when you drive by…….

  7. 7 jezebel282

    nnan,

    Oh….

    Like back in the day….

  8. 8 sudds

    “Mayor’s Secretary $36,033 (+12%)$45,000
    CAO $90,000 (+8%)$97,824
    HR Director $85,750 (+5%)$90,884”

Don’t get me wrong… I think AT A MINIMUM there should be NO pay increase for anyone!

    “Kent Miller’s pay…”

Political kickbacks in Stratford? You don’t say? Heck, have you happened to notice what’s going on in Washington DC since January… if our Federal Democrats are the “Kickback Kings”… then perhaps Stratford Dems can be the “Kickback Queens”?!?!

    “Berchem Moses and Devlin’s pay
Note: The $677,872* was only the amount paid as of Dec 31, 2008. We do not know what BMD will bill in 2009 yet.”

Perhaps if terminated employees didn’t bring frivolous lawsuits against the town…

“Many of the union members have spouses that have lost their jobs and are sole providers now.”

There are MANY one-income households in Stratford right now… hence the reason that now is the worst possible time to ask for an increase… WHO THE @#^% do you think is going to have to pay for those increases?

“Most of the unions have foregone raises for 3.5 years when there were “surpluses”.”

When your group finds itself in a desert it is NOT the best time to ask for an increase in water rations! WhyTF did they wait until the eceonomy was in the crapper until they decided to fight to their rights? Do you have any idea how much easier this would have been a year ago?

“How many contracts have you signed and then decided (on your own) to change the terms, conditions and payments?”

Why don’t you ask the employees at Sikorsky about this one? Perhaps you can ask them on one of the three furlough days they are going to be forced to take this year!!!

  9. 9 sudds

“on a billboard that potentially may go up detailing all the screw ups of the 1st mayoral term”

    Err…have you noticed THIS website?”

Maybe they just realize that this site is more partial (if that is possible) than the New York Times?!?!?

  10. 10 sudds

On a final note: do you think there will ever be GOOD news to report in this town??? Seriously, everyone I talk to thinks our town is a joke!!!

  11. 11 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“Don’t get me wrong… I think AT A MINIMUM there should be NO pay increase for anyone!”

An interesting point. Perhaps if Miron hadn’t persecuted the employees and unions for 3.5 years…..

“then perhaps Stratford Dems can be the “Kickback Queens”?!?!”

Are you disparaging Mr. Miller’s masculinity?

“Perhaps if terminated employees didn’t bring frivolous lawsuits against the town…”

I could only find one lawsuit from an employee and that one is for age discrimination, harassment and retaliation. Doesn’t sound frivolous to me. The other is Christian Miron’s lawsuit against Henrick, McNeil and Farmer. Now that does sound frivolous. There are a bunch of labor hearings scheduled as well.

“WHO THE @#^% do you think is going to have to pay for those increases?”

You. Perhaps if there were a cap on legal fees to Berchem Moses & Devlin……

“Do you have any idea how much easier this would have been a year ago?”

You mean when the teachers agreed not to renegotiate their contract to save taxpayers money and extended it another year?

“Why don’t you ask the employees at Sikorsky about this one?”

Mostly because I don’t know enough other than UTC is taking some cash out of it’s most profitable division to carry the others.

“Maybe they just realize that this site is more partial (if that is possible)”

Partial? Moi? Have I ever edited anything (other than George) that anyone has posted? It is not my fault if Miron and the Mironistas have no arguments to post here. Besides, Mayor Moron has his own propaganda website that you fund.

  12. Sudds ~

As the wife of a union employee AND a Stratford taxpaying resident, I have to agree with the unions here. If Miron didn’t – two months before demanding (not asking) for a wage freeze – plump up his loyalists with merit raises, if he led by example and did something that would show some sort of good faith and that he truly does understand the economic crisis, then perhaps the unions would be less hostile towards his demands.

We were already in crisis mode in October. Many were wondering how they were going to pay for their heating fuel, gas, electricity and still make ends meet. There were already jobs being lost – just not in the numbers that occurred after the beginning of 2009. Taxpayers in Stratford were already struggling, but he had these merit raises given to his “cabinet.” If he’s proven anything, it’s that he cares only for his own – not for the people who pay his paycheck!

Give back the town-provided cars, rescind the merit raises, make it work with one less mayoral aide and, get rid of the consultants (Miller and probably Habelka) that remain on the Town payroll despite the fact they resigned as mayoral aides!

We know not everything is on the up-and-up when it comes to Jim Miron, and it won’t be clear until he’s voted out of office and the next mayor starts uncovering the truth!

  13. P.S. ~ from what I heard, what was offered for the DPW contract that was turned down was a wage freeze, and no lay-off clause, but the no lay-off clause was only through June 30, 2010…. what good is that with a three year contract?

Also, I heard (not sure when it occurred) that the police union did take a wage freeze and a promise was made in return that wasn’t kept.

We have all seen, in the past 3.5 years how well Miron kept his promises to the taxpayers of the Town of Stratford, what makes you think he’ll keep any promise he makes to any of these union employees?

  14. 14 jezebel282

    PCS,

It probably didn’t help that Chief Buturla was pocketing a $224 raise every paycheck.

  15. Jeze ~

Not sure when it happened, but I was told that the police union did take a wage freeze at some point – not sure if it was during this contract period. In exchange, they were promised something – probably that they’d be taken care of in the future, but it never happened.

I’m sure there’s a couple officers here that can confirm or elaborate.

I also saw – probably on Topix – posted a list of the police officers on Miron’s loyalist list. WOW, is that ever on the money and I certainly wasn’t surprised to see a couple of names on there.

  16. 16 sudds

    PCS… don’t get me wrong… I completely argee with 99.9% of what you’re saying!!!

However, I think that in the current economic state we’re in most people would trade no pay increase for no-layoffs in the next 12+ months!

  17. 17 sudds

“It is not my fault if Miron and the Mironistas have no arguments to post here.”

Ut oh… Jez fell off the wagon again! how many times do I have to tell you that crack is NOT GOOD for breakfast!?!?!?!

    Sudds,

“trade no pay increase for no-layoffs in the next 12+ months!”

Even if anyone believed that (which they don’t) we will have a new mayor and a new council. He just can’t make that guarantee.

  19. 19 sudds

Wait… I take that back… I donated $5 to Hillary’s campaign last month in hopes of winning the day with Billy-Boy! Imagine the pointers he could give me (with the ladies that is)!?!?!?

Ok then… how about gaurantees for the next 8 months!!! If they turn this down… I swear… I am going to b*tch-slap the first laid-off employee who complains that they are jobless!!!

  22. 22 sudds

  23. 23 sudds

    oops… not=now

    now THAT is funny!

  24. 24 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“Ok then… how about gaurantees for the next 8 months!!!”

The new Budget is effective on June 1. That would only be for 6 months. AND it would help Moron get re-elected. Miron buddies have already gotten 7 months of their raises.

“I am going to b*tch-slap the first laid-off employee”

I would LOVE to see that. There are some Public Works employees and cops that I would like to see you try that with.

(Don’t worry about the mess….PW guys are trained for that.)

  25. Sudds ~

What has Miron done in his fiefdom to show he’s acting in good faith – NOTHING!

I agree – we’re in tough economic times and I, along with you, would really hate to see my taxes go up. That means my mortgage will increase too, but what he’s done is help his own and screw the rest. He should’ve never given those merit raises and he should adjusting the way business is done at Town Hall. There are other ways to save, but he’s targeting the unions – like he’s done from the beginning – while padding the paychecks of his own! It doesn’t matter that the merit raises happened in the 2008-09 budget – they didn’t have to occur – especially since were were already in a state of crisis!

Again – if he wants concessions – he needs to lead by example. Concessions can not just be made by the union employees – he’s got to start in his own backyard!

I found this quote, but not sure who said it: “Leadership is done from in front. Never ask others to do what you, if challenged, would not be willing to do yourself.” He is certainly not willing to work in good faith with anyone other than his cronies. He’s proven that!

Nothing, absolutely nothing, Miron has done has been from the front. Everything is back-room, hidden in other line items in the budget, and completely dishonest.

  26. 26 1george1

I believe that in Miron’s state of the Town Speech, he said he had
    550 employees. That surprized me.

Prior to the Mayor election I believe there were 425 – 450 full time
    and under 100 part timers.

Can anyone confirm Miron padded the employee count?

I know there were added police and fire, where they intenionally
understaffed to build up retirements of the Town Committees
friends, who should have investigated the Town Committees.
For some of you, in simple terms = BRIBERY.

Years ago, Diane Buda stated there was no way there were over 9,000
    students under the O’Connell regime.

Under Branyan / Cornish there are about 7,600.

A certain Town Councilor asked if former police chief Imbro was paying
his way with cutting out non residents from attending schools? Affirmative.
We call that a softball question.

At BoE Budget Workshop, Emma Brooks stated that her state of CT.
Department union gave back pay raises to keep staff.

However since all of the junior staff are Miron’s people, and since
Miron has caused problems – I do not see that happening.

Further, I believe some of the problems between the unions and vs.
Mirons are to win VOTES of TAX PAYERS.

For all of the acrimony supposedly between the unions and political
parties, NONE of the TOWN COUNCILORS, NOR MAYORAL CANDIDATES
is quoted a PEEP about the
    GOLDEN PARACHUTES,
    ROLLS ROYCE HEALTH CARE,
    FEATHERBEDDING O. T.
    DOUBLE and TRIPLE DIPPERS

More than 1/2 of Teachers are at top pay which averages $ 90,000
Over 60 Town Employees PENSIONS are over $ 60,000

Everybody is paying 12 % or 13% of their Health Care Premiums, of a
    $ 15,000 to $ 19,000 unTAXED total benefit.

Private Sector is normally 40 % to 100% payment of Premium.

When Sudds is the “blogger of reason” on some of the pay, benefit,
    & other issues …… 😉

Nnan – I thought the idea about a bill board is brilliant.
The new electronic billboards have AT LEAST TWO SCREENS.
I am unsure how many SCREENS would be needed for
    Mironesque mIRON CURTAIN malfeasance?
    Oh the mIRONy!

I am still waiting for PCS to tear apart my idea for instant commmuter
parking instead of the “WAITING FOR GOD-O.T.” Parking Garage.

There are several hundred existing parking spots by BALLY – MOVIES –
BEHIND Bank / Home Depot / Shaw’s / Walmart or unused PARTS of
the top of their PARKING LOT.

All that is needed is a State Grant, cooperation between the RR,
and EPA / DEP, along with the GBTA.
Westport runs a commuter BUS RUN.
    Why can’t Stratford?

    Oh… I forgot… as Freddete would say: 😉
    “HEY … This IS Stratford!”

Last thing, about this blog string…
Nothing about benefit to the Homeowners and Businesses of Stratford?

Nothing about helping kids, senior citizens, pounded middle class.

  27. “I am still waiting for PCS to tear apart my idea for instant commmuter parking instead of the “WAITING FOR GOD-O.T.” Parking Garage.

“There are several hundred existing parking spots by BALLY – MOVIES – BEHIND Bank / Home Depot / Shaw’s / Walmart or unused PARTS of the top of their PARKING LOT.”

George ~ I don’t favor moving the train station to where you suggest.

As for the Stratford Square parking lot – which, for the most part is empty during the prime commuter hours, I believe from meetings I have attended that the owner of Stratford Square was queried about utilizing the spaces there and doesn’t want it. People park there anyway and walk through. During rainy days – the path gets muddy. There is also a history of flooding in that area. I even heard that he was going to cut off plowing in areas he knew commuters parked to force them elsewhere.

The commuters need the parking garage. We’ve fought very hard to get it and don’t need you – a non-commuter – trying to take it away from us!

    George…

    450 + 100 = 550

    George,

“More than 1/2 of Teachers are at top pay which averages $ 90,000”

What hat did you pull that out of? You would need 16+ years AND a Master’s degree to get that.

“Nothing about benefit to the Homeowners and Businesses of Stratford?”

Being open, honest and ethical about how our money is spent would be a good first step.

“Nothing about helping kids, senior citizens, pounded middle class.”

Giving money back instead of giving it to friends an cronies would help everyone, wouldn’t it?

  30. 30 sudds

OK PEOPLE… PLEASE ALLOW ME TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT…

    1) I AGREE that Miron has sucked some royal a$$ as Mayor

    2) My current candidate for mayor is still George Mulligan (because the rest are too politically connected… and no one has yet to offer me the no-show job at the train station)

    3) I think that there is no way in h*ll that Miron wins re-election and our next mayor will be (sorry George) a Republican

    4) I do NOT think that things will be better with the new Republican mayor

    5) The thought of having a Republican Mayor AND Council scares the bajeezus out of me!

    6) I believe that all raises in the last 6 months are WRONG and should be rescinded

    7) I think EVERY ONE of our Council is too big (no offense Amy) of a @#$%^ to do anything about it

    8) I AGREE that town employees have been given the shaft over the last several years!

    9) However, I do NOT think that now is the time to increase taxes on 10’s of 1,000’s of taxpayers to provide raises for less than 550 people! (full disclosure: while I don’t want it… I can afford the $200 or so a year increase in my taxes… but I highly doubt my unemployed neighbor with 2 kids would agree right now)

    Anything else you wanna know???

  31. Jeze ~

What is it that people don’t understand????

“Giving money back instead of giving it to friends an cronies would help everyone, wouldn’t it?”

Leading by example would be the first step. Rescind the raises – get our money back is a first step towards making things right. But that first would mean he has to admit he was wrong and we know that that can and would never happen in Mironville!

  32. 32 jezebel282

    Sudds,

    1) I AGREE that Miron has sucked some royal a$$ as Mayor

    Me too

    2) My current candidate for mayor is still George Mulligan (because the rest are too politically connected… and no one has yet to offer me the no-show job at the train station)

    Sigh…me too.

    5) The thought of having a Republican Mayor AND Council scares the bajeezus out of me!

Me too. I would love to be out of the blog business. The pay sucks.

    6) I believe that all raises in the last 6 months are WRONG and should be rescinded

    Me too.

    7) I think EVERY ONE of our Council is too big (no offense Amy) of a @#$%^ to do anything about it.

Me too. (You think that council seat makes Amy’s @#$%^ look big?)

    8) I AGREE that town employees have been given the shaft over the last several years!

    Me too.

The sad part is that they believed Miron the last time and now he wants more just to get re-elected. After he’s already raised taxes 25+%. What I find is that there will be resistance to any negotiated pay increase, ever. Town employees could make minimum wage (some do) and still people would think that is too much.

  33. 33 1george1

    1) there were discussions with the owners of the MOVIE THEATER/BALLY

    I DID NOT KNOW THAT!
GOOD to KNOW! VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD to KNOW.

    2) You do not WANNA change the Train Station, from present site.
Lotta things I do not WANNA do.

    3) You honestly think there was EVER intent to build a parking garage?
You honestly think there will be a parking garage, while you commute?

Oh, if GAVIN comes out running for Mayor….
And if he points to UNFUNDED MANDATES ….

Guess where that came from? 8)

  35. 35 jezebel282

    George,

“I was at the BUDGET WORK SHOP @ CENTER SCHOOL Thursday night.”

Are you stating that over half the teachers have 16+ years of experience and Master’s degrees?

Of course in the private sector, if you have 16+ years of expertise and a Master’s degree you would probably be making more. Right, Sudds?

  36. 36 1george1

    JEZE:
    CHECK THE BUDGET BOOK.
I heard IRENE CORNISH state more than 50 % are at top PAY.

In the PRIVATE SECTOR many MBAs:

    1. Do NOT have JOBS?

    2. Have to work more than 186 DAYS per year?

    3. Lost their PORTFOLIOS and BENEFITS.

    4. I wonder who is more representative of having an MBA?
    A – SUDDS
    B – AMY

Nothing but good things about SUDDS + AMY.

  37. 37 jezebel282

    George,

“I heard IRENE CORNISH state more than 50 % are at top PAY.”

That would be an amazing statistic. More than 50% of any organization with 16+ years experience and Master’s degrees….each?

  38. 38 sudds

Jez… is there any way you can set this thing up to black any and ALL future instances of people trying to post the words “SUDDS + AMY”????

  39. 39 sudds

“Of course in the private sector, if you have 16+ years of expertise and a Master’s degree you would probably be making more. Right, Sudds?”

  40. 40 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“black any and ALL future instances of people trying to post the words “SUDDS + AMY”????”

Sorry. The variations are too great. “Amy + Sudds” “Sudds on Amy”, “Amy playing with Sudds”, “Sudds, you wanna make ‘er”, “Amy licking…”. You get the idea??

“4. I wonder who is more representative of having an MBA?
    A – SUDDS
    B – AMY”

    I VOTE FOR AMY!

  43. 43 1george1

AMY is a nice lady who generally means well.

Coincidentally, though, she rasied certain issues about the Board of Ed
and absenteeism fo teachers and students, and sought a correlation to
see if they had causal relationship,

Unfortunately the FAC in Town Council.
The Board of Ed is BoE
    The Administration is Miron.

The coincidence is that at the Board of Ed Budget workshop, it was ALVIN’S
turn to raise the EXACT same issue. I do not believe AMY was on thal panel?

While great minds think alike, what are the chances that AMY + ALVIN
happen to use the same verbage and concept to 2 separate meetings
to TWO separate groups of people?

    Obviously they were coached.

The same is true with Alvin and the Antonozzi issue with HONEY HOUSE
and JOHNSON HOUSE not being elidgible for STATE MATCHING FUNDS
since combined they lack then necessary minimum of students per
    square foot.
I am unsure if it was Burturla, Antonozzi, or Miron who was behind it,
but I bought it up at Public Forum Monday Special Meeting, then Alvin
had Antinozzi’s boy do his thing, which I had done a decent job of
    setting up for them.

However I also pointed out BONDING ISSUES, UNFUNDED MANDATES,
INTEREST & PRINCIPLE REPAYMENT, lost ECS & other REVENUE, blown
PENSION MONEY – which all combine to drain money from general
    funds causing OVER TAXATION.

So instead of SUDDS & AMY – I combined AMY + ALVIN
    ALSO
    Myself + Alvin / Antonozzi / Miron / Burturla / 😦 Oh NO!! 😦
Sometimes they either do something right or catch something from
    going wrong…
Not that Antonozzi would work for Free
Not that Bond Council would …
    Not that Burturla would …

I wonder if Jeze agrees with my connecting DOTS on diverse people
all dipping into the SAME PIE?

  44. 44 1george1

I wonder if ALVIN, JULIAN and HENRICH who are in the
    CONSTRUCTION Business, somehow….

Monday night Kubic & Burturla were litterally skipping out
of the Special Meeting, maybe around 8:00. It was before the
Town Attorney’s report was supposed to take place and before
the Water Pollution Authority change orders and,,,,,
    > Tempted to check the parking lot for HEADS popping up & down ….
however, there are some things I just NEVER want to see!!!

Gavin is CFO for a specialty insurnace company kinda like a LLOYDS
of LONDON. I understand WATER FRONT PROPERTY like SHAKESPEARE,
    AVCO, AIRPORT, LBW ….

JR works for Sikorski. Quiet. Organized.

Emma is a social worker. She may be the only ideological purist.

Dempsey is quiet. One of these days, he is going to surprize …
    maybe.

Tom is retired state cop. I honestly think he means well.
I think he has come to understand some reason to adjust
some of his beliefs, based on what he has seen in town/state.

I had hopes for Kubic. Increasingly he comes across as an even
more arrogant jerk then me. Except I want to help people who
    have difficulty helping themselves.

Amy has not quite differentiated between “being a team player”
    and “being played.”

But that is true of most of the party animals.
Except Emma. She cares. If Silhavey had her balls and committment
    – not that he has not done some very good things – Silhavey would
be among the best political people in town. in the finest sense of
the term. Unfortunately he is positioned too close to NORM.
    FAR too close!

I heard Harborside turnout for JON was not good.

I heard Johnny’s had 140 for Harkins. No one recognizes about 1/2
of the Harkins donators or those to NORMS Debutant ball at Mill
River Country Club, which less than 1/2 of the Town Committees
    showed up.
Henrick’s table were his employees from what I heard?
Norm & Crudo would not take the $ 60 for the BUFFET.
So I went back anonymous donator who had given me $ 50 and
gave it back. Anonymous donator knew I would give some people
indigestion and would have gotten pyschic gratification from just
know my mere presence would cause some consternation.

Apparently Republicans are having problems finding Candidates to
    run for various offices.

Seems there are rumors about Criminal activity by people in both
the ranking positions of the Democratic and Republican parties.
Despite protection from state and federal levels, for people to run
for office in Stratford they (mostly) 😉 have to live in Stratford.

Too many have children, neighbors, family, coworkers, friends,
people in Church / School / Fraternal organization to want to
be associated with NORM & BURTURLA – MIRON

Frankly – I am getting increase information from Police / Fire / PW
    / Town Hall / Republicans / Democrats / United Democrats / indepen
bloggers / Public Forum people / Committee people – who are SICK
    – REALLY SICK about the MUCK and CRAP of Stratford politics.

The pensioners know there is wrong doing, but can not come out
against it, but do not want to be tarred with the same brush as the
    worst offenders..

Jeze – I suspect this will move for RELEVENCE
Besides being diverse – I get passionate about what should be done!

    George,

“I wonder if Jeze agrees with my connecting DOTS on diverse people all dipping into the SAME PIE?”

The amazing thing is that there are any crumbs for us left over at all.

I also hear that Loschiavo is back at the PD in his consultant costume. You have to wonder who gets paid the higher “consulting” rate; him or Kent Miller?

Some people just love the taste of our pie.

  46. 46 sudds

“So instead of SUDDS & AMY – I combined AMY + ALVIN”

I would prefer that you combine Amy + any one of the other 6,706,993,150 other people on the face of the earth… PLEASE!!!!

  47. 47 sudds

“Some people just love the taste of our pie.” 😯
