Andersen v. Hoydick

Don’t you just love it? Another election! We simply can’t get enough elections around here, can we?

However, we are extremely pleased to see not one, but two articulate intelligent women running for office. It’s about time.

We hope the debate gets better than it has.

Hoydick:

“Our great community cannot afford a representative who will rubber-stamp the Democrats’ agenda of higher taxes, more debt and fewer jobs,” Hoydick said. “Stratford taxpayers are under assault by a do-nothing, tax-and-spend majority in the General Assembly that has halted job creation, chased businesses out of Connecticut and plunged us into the deepest debt in America.”

Andersen:

“someone in Hartford who will give our community a voice.”

“We are facing some of the most turbulent and uncertain times in our country’s history,” Andersen said. “If elected I will work for responsible spending, increased efficiency and transparent government.

“I will also advocate for job-creation incentives in clean industries such as movie production, life sciences and financial services. Too many people in our community struggle to make ends meet,” she said.

Source: http://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Former-school-board-members-vie-for-Harkins-seat-347590.php

Sadly, Ms. Hoydick is taking a combative position, much like the GOP on a national level. The party of “No”. She hasn’t been elected yet and already has a negative message. We truly hope that changes. You can’t be successful by opposing everything.

Ms. Andersen has a positive message of actually doing something.

It is worth noting that in Ms. Andersen’s previous debates with Dan Debicella, in the editor’s opinion, she won the debate in a walk. Mr. Debicella clearly had no idea about health coverage other than benefiting insurance companies. Sadly, at the time, Ms. Andersen had to carry the weight of Miron and the DTC. That is an impossible task for any politician.

Stratford Dem has “God” on Her Side in Special Election to Replace Harkins
February 1, 2010 at 8:35 pm by Ken Dixon

Janice Andersen, a Democrat hoping to take the state House seat vacated by John Harkins, who’s the new mayor of Stratford, filed a campaign-finance report with the State Elections Enforcement Commission that indicates a modest $3,847 raised, with about $2,915 on hand going into next month’s special election. Anyway, contributors have to list their employers and occupations. Nestled on line 88 is a a $100 check from Jim Miron, the erstwhile first mayor of the town who lost to Harkins in November. Under the line that requires an “employer,” the former pistol-packing mayor has listed “God” and under “occupation,” he wrote “None.”

  2. 2 mayor2013

Do you think he is at the monastery – working for forgiveness?

And that $100 belongs to the taxpayers!

  3. 3 sudds

“Our great community cannot afford… higher taxes, more debt and fewer jobs”

    This is negative???

If having lower taxes, less debt and more jobs is wrong… then I don’t wanna be right!!!

  4. 4 sudds

“Nestled on line 88 is a a $100 check from Jim Miron”

    ‘nough said…

    GO HOYDICK!!!

  5. 5 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“If having lower taxes, less debt and more jobs is wrong… then I don’t wanna be right!!!”

Contrary to what you and your Republican friends might think, you can’t get there by just saying “no” and going nowhere.

But Andersen and the rest of the DTC just won’t learn. The Mironistas will not get you elected to anything. As long as they keep re-electing Richard Miron, Rich Buturla, Heather Habelka and Kent Miller they will lose election after election.

  6. 6 sudds

“Contrary to what you and your Republican friends might think, you can’t get there by just saying “no” and going nowhere.”

    Soooo…

do you think that saying “NO new taxes” is going to help or hurt bring new companies/revenue into our town/region???

and how about “NO government spending deficits”???

oh yeah, and “we will NOT bankrupt our children to pay for programs now” (a NOT counts the same as a NO, right?)

Should I go on… or do we REALLY have to get into how Keynesian economics is a bunch of cr*p that NEVER works! (just ask Jimmy “18+% mortgages” Carter)

Unless, of course, your name is (George, PLEASE use some constraint) Stalin, Hitler, Marx, etc…

  7. 7 ronmoreau

    Jez,
Mr. Miron listed his occupation as ‘NONE”?

I thought Jim Miron is a lawyer.

  8. 8 sudds

    Ron,

    Would YOU hire him??? 😆

  9. 9 cstratct

    Sudds,

You attack Keynesian economics, and have to go back to Carter to make your case. Yet “trickle down” economics didn’t work so well did it? Well, unless you call massive deficit spending good policy.

And it doesn’t really matter what the interest rate is at this point because the vast middle class has already been squeezed to the breaking point. Many home mortgages are upside down and banks have cut off or suspended a lot of HELOCs. And how was that created? Lax regluation and easy money put in place by “supply side” economic theory.

Yes the middle class received the “trickle down,” but not in the way the supply siders proposed.

  10. 10 mikereynolds

As long as any Stratford Democrat associates with Jim Miron by taking campaign contributions or having supported him as Mayor and has not publicly “renounced” him I will never vote for a Democrat in any Stratford election. Any connection to Miron can only mean you support corrupt, vindictive, and unethical government and I’m certainly not going to vote for that.

  11. 11 jezebel282

    Mike,

“As long as any Stratford Democrat associates with Jim Miron”

I, and thousands of voters, agree with you.

  12. 12 jezebel282

    Cstrat,

“You attack Keynesian economics, and have to go back to Carter to make your case. ”

    You’re arguing with Sudds?

This is a guy who fantasizes about Sarah Palin in ways both political and perverse.

  13. 13 sudds

Of course I have to go back to Carter… the only other Dem in the last 20+ years was Clinton and at least he was smart enough to get interns to… umm, I mean he was smart enough to take the middle ground and NOT follow a Keynesian model!!!

And let’s be honest… so called “squeezed” middle class is just as guilty as anyone else for the mess they are in!

Unlike many people we know… Misses Sudds and I weren’t greedy when our home values went up, and hence the drop in our homes value hasn’t really effected us!

Now if we had taken out a HELOC to pay for a new car, pay off credit card debt, take vacations, etc (ALL things that I KNOW were done by people that I know personally)… we’d be just as hardpressed as others.

Remember good sir… when you point the finger at others… there are four pointing back at you!!!

  14. 14 sudds

“This is a guy who fantasizes about Sarah Palin in ways both political and perverse”

Nah… sorry to disappoint ya, but I actually don’t want her in either of the above ways!

ALTHOUGH… I have thought about moving to the Ukraine and doing some things with their Prime Minister that are illegal in Muslim Countries!!!

And all bets are off the table is PCS ever runs for office!!!! 😉

  15. 15 sudds

    cstratct…

“unless you call massive deficit spending good policy”

Nope… this is why I am proud to say that I did NOT vote for Obama!!!

  16. 16 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“hence the drop in our homes value hasn’t really effected us!”

Which is essentially always your point.

But then again, you aren’t close to retiring, laid off, putting kids through college or ill…yet.

  17. 17 mikereynolds

“ALTHOUGH… I have thought about moving to the Ukraine and doing some things with their Prime Minister that are illegal in Muslim Countries!!!”

I had to look that one up….WOW! She’s beautiful!

  18. 18 jezebel282

    Gentlemen!

    Hoydick?

    Andersen?

  19. 19 cstratct

    Sudds,

Then you shouldn’t have voted for Reagan, Bush I or Bush II. All deficit spenders to the extreme.

And you’re really going to trot out a sexual tryst when we’ve seen the likes of Ensign, Sanford, Vitter and others follow the same path? Sexual indiscretions among married individuals are deplorable, whether they are Republicans or Democrats (Edwards is just as bad as all those mentioned above). But they have nothing to do with economic policy and they are just a way of avoiding the issue.

As for people being “just as guilty,” I think you’re off base on that front. While some people obviously used HELOC’s for some of the activities you mention, they also used them to make improvements to their homes with the belief that the banks, assessors, realtors and other lenders were acting above board and not artificially manipulating the market.

The manipulation of the housing market has all the markings of the same manipulation of the energy market back in late 1990’s. And that turned out just great for consumers didn’t it? Remember the energy traders joking about screwing consumers? And I’m sure all those people at Enron were thrilled to lose their jobs because of corporate malfeasance.

It’s one thing if there’s a level playing field, but when the deck is stacked and banks/corporations are playing with house money and they’re counting the cards, it’s hardly a fair game.

  20. 20 mikereynolds

    “Gentlemen!

    Hoydick?

    Andersen?”

    Who? lol

  21. 21 sudds

“But then again, you aren’t close to retiring, laid off, putting kids through college or ill…yet.”

If you are any of these then you should NOT have been raiding your home’s value over the last 2-8 years!!!

You reap what you sow my dear… you reap what you sow!!!

  22. 22 sudds

    Mike… hubba-hubba… huh??? 😉

  23. 23 sudds

PS… jsut for the record… it is NOT “all about me”…

I simply used myself as an example to show that fiscally conservative households are NOT finding themselves up sh*t’s creek because their home value fell!!!

But then again Jez… you’re a Democrat… ergo you don’t care about deficits!!

  24. 24 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“But then again Jez… you’re a Democrat… ergo you don’t care about deficits!!”

I’m a parent. I am well aware of deficit spending and dealing with it.

  25. 25 jezebel282

    Sudds,

“If you are any of these then you should NOT have been raiding your home’s value over the last 2-8 years!!!”

You’d have to be some kind of wizard to be able to look 8 years into the future of the economy.

And we’re not talking about raiding anything. When (not if) you are laid off or become ill your home becomes at once your greatest asset and biggest liability in this market. It is your home that get’s you to 750+ credit rating. Parents of very young children will convert their 30 year mortgage into a 15 year mortgage to pay ever escalating tuition costs. (UCONN and CSU are currently at $17,000+/year). If you’re close to retirement, that asset just lost about 30% of it’s value.

Oh by the way, when you call your bank and ask if you can get bailed out like they did, they will tell you “SURE”! These poor bankers will immediately sell your mortgage to Fannie Mae (if they didn’t already), Fannie Mae will lower your rate to the current going rate 4.78 today and your bank will pocket $6,000+ in closing fees. The bank tacks on the $6,000+ to your existing balance. Nice.

  26. 26 1george1

Keynesian economics properly administrated has proven to work very well at times.
Maynard Keynes was the first to point out one size does not fit all and there are
exceptions and dialectical situations, necessitating “adjustments.

    During the Reagan years 93 – 96 % (i forget exACT %) of ALL $ 100 BILLS had
COCAINE on them. There were SPOT recessions – depressions aound the USA,
which the FEDERAL RESERVE found money supply was disproportionately LOW,
and the CA + FL Federal Reserve District (DRUG IMPORT STATES) were OVER
    STOCKED with CAPITAL
    – SUDDS that is an example of “APPLIED” KEYNESIAN THEORY.

Subsequent cash cow factors ( I am showing RESTRAINT – constraint??)
of steering CASH to a SMALL GROUP, while away from another LARGER
GROUP, has an EMPIRICAL& VERIFIABLE “APPLIED” KEYNESIAN THEORY
    effect.

However I prefer mixing in concepts proposed by Jack Kemp
    – Arthur Laffer and Milton Friedman.

Last month there was a meeting of the RAIL ROAD PARKING GARAGE
and TRAIN STATION as a “DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER” with Stevens Pub
and Station House Square as PRIME BENEFICIARY of tens of millions
    in projected spending.
    – I know at least one Town Council Vote where domestic tranquity
would be disturbed if the Councilor voted the wrong way?
    – I know at least one of the Two LADY Candidates for Harkins seat
(figuretively) appears to have a conflict of interest in the ISSUE?

Kinda like Fire man Jim Feehan never helping the FIRE DEPT buy a FIRE
TRUCK from one of his companies competitors, during his 9 years on
    the Council?

    MEMORANDUM
    TO: Mayor Harkins
    FROM: MAYOR2013

Mr. Mayor, I must ask this question and I trust you will respond. This gentleman known as Adam Bauer, Chief of Staff . . . is there a job description for such a position? Since, I’m funding his salary, how much am I paying him? And, finally, sir, please point out this position in the Charter – because try as I did to locate it, I cannot. I know you want to be transparent about your administration – in view of what we just disposed of – so I have little doubt that you will oblige me.

If you are re-organizing the Mayor’s staff and re-positioning and/or creating new positions, I’d kinda like to know about it and where are you getting your authority to do so?

  36. 36 sudds

““Who rented office space in station house square to Jim Miron and Norm?””

Seriously George… a bit of a stretch, dontcha think???

That’s like saying that your tax dollars paid Mayor Miron’s salary… therefore you support him!!!

PS… besides… doesn’t renting to Miron AND Norm PROVE that she can be bipartisan??? 😆

  37. 37 sudds

“Last I checked, Sudds and I are not related”

Phhhhew… looks like we won’t have to move to Arkansas afterall!!!

  38. 38 phineast

thought she didn’t manage that any longer..

  39. 39 mayor2013

Laura Hoydick is into a lot of work – here and there. She did manage the office building where Norm and Jim rented space. In fairness, that is her job. I doubt she can turn away a lease. She also worked for the Bpt Regional Council, but not for long. Don’t know why she separated. She has been into a lot of things in town. Never seems to stay with anything for very long. She loves politics and certainly is the Captain of her marriage – she says jump and Paul says “how high?” She can do the job of State Representative, but so can Janice Andersen. Of the two candidates, Andersen is more stable and definitely more qualified. But, she probably will not defeat Hoydick – who has huge support from the mayor.

  40. 40 mikereynolds

“But, she probably will not defeat Hoydick – who has huge support from the mayor.”

That’s called the curse of Miron. This will affect Stratford Democrats for awhile.

  41. 41 mayor2013

    Mike,
You are correct. It is sad for the “qualified” Democrats – but they supported and marched to the drill of a terrorizing leader who was warned that you cannot, for any length of time, govern by terror.

Speaking of qualified Democrats, I read that Heather was appointed to the Democratic Town Committe — how can that be when she now resides in Shelton?

  42. 42 mayor2013

    MEMORANDUM
    TO: Capt. McNeil
    Lt. Soto
    SUBJECT: Suggestion

Are you as tired as me regarding your employment status? I suggest you start one of those count down clocks similar to the one you had running for the remainder of Miron’s term. Only, this one should read how long it has been since the guy you worked your butts off for to relieve your pains and make you whole. His HR person is on board – and that issue should be a “high priority.” Of course, and I am not the least bit surprised, Mrs.Loschiavo and son, remain on the payrolls.

    NEWSFLASH…….

This just in! It might not be too late for Richard Miron. Jimmy, Kent Miller and Stratford’s Dr. Pesale are playing in the poker tournament at Mohegan Sun. Don’t cry yet Dick, Jimmy may safe you and this time it might be from funds he actually earned.

Oh, and I hate to do this, but Mr. Mayor, what are you doing about the pictures you have showing SF1 at the casino???? Saving them for your scrapbook?????

I heard one of them has a 313 Bowling Average?

Most recently, Kerik is on the verge of being charged with

The wiretapping charge stems from an incident when Kerik

Ironically, this conversation took place over a line that

It is my request that the personal lives of candidates (unless they were arrested for 1st Degree Larceny or Embezzlement or something) be left out of the political discussions.

I am extremely disappointed that these were the best the RTC/DTC have to offer.

By her statement, Ms. Hoydick’s agenda seems to be railing at anyone with a “D”.
By her campaign records, Ms. Andersen showed extremely poor judgment by accepting contributions from Miron of all people.

Stratford relies on the State for funding the two most vital groups in this Town. Children and Seniors. THIS is what the discussion needs to be about and who can effectively serve the residents.

  51. 54 mayor2013

    TO: Mayor Harkins

Just wondering, your position of Chief of Staff, if you are going to be kind enough to respond to my past inquiry, in addition, I would also like to know if Mr. Bauer pays taxes to the town. Is he a resident of Stratford?

I understand the the Grand List is down by 55 million plus dollars as a result of the most recent revaluation. I know my property assessment plummeted. Is this correct? What steps are your administration taking to deal with this? What happened with commercial property? What about the businesses? Come on, how about an explanation???? Remember this?
    Tax reduction forecast after revaluation
    Written by John Kovach
    Friday, 30 October 2009 14:23
Finance Director Saint John the Aposle Norko and Terrorist Mayor James R. Miron announced Friday that the residential tax burden would be relieved once the current revaluation is completed.
Preliminary indications show that the average homeowner would see a reduction of 3.25%, or $185, in their property taxes.
Data released during a press conference in Miron’s office showed that slightly less than 4% of real property taxes would shift to industrial and commercial properties.
The breakdown for fiscal 2010 is 83.26% residential, 16.74% commercial. For 2011, the forecast is 80.57% residential, 19.443% commercial.
Motor vehicle and personal property taxes were not included in the calculations.
    #################################################################

It was a desperate attempt on the part of Miron and his administration to win votes. Of course, it did not work – because most folks don’t understand any of this talk. But, Mayor Harkins, you do! You are really in a rotten place and you need to get a handle on it and start talking to the taxpayers – and I suggest you do it now rather than later.

  55. 58 jezebel282

    Sudds,

A little perspective. She accepted $100. It wasn’t a trip to Paris or something.

    Will she? Beats me.

If they are too hard; Stratford is in trouble. If they are too personal; Mayor John and Chief of Staff(????) better grown some skin for lack of a better phase. When you are serving the public everything is an open book. Failure to respond . . . leads to disaster.

May I suggest that YOU call the Mayors office and ask HIM these questions and get back to us with the answers. I’m sure he will oblige you.

So far, I have no problems with the direction Mayor Harkins is taking our town.

4 years of horrible decision makeing and time bombs layed by the last administration takes time to defuse.

  60. 63 jezebel282

    Ron,

“(I do suspect you are one of the candidates for mayor in the last election.)”

Just a note. I don’t think so. Jon Best never had a problem posting here. George, well, George NEVER has a problem posting here. And someone would have to explain to Domenic what this world wide web thing is.

I suspected at first that 2013 was a DTC member, but we all know they swore an oath of loyalty in perpetuity. 2013 doesn’t seem to have a high regard for Miron. Which leaves…somebody else.

  61. 64 ronmoreau

    Jez,

How about the former Mayor himself?

  62. 65 ronmoreau

He may be critical of himself to devert….

Damn, I sound like George now.

  63. 66 jezebel282

    Ron,

Do you really think Miron would say

“Finance Director Saint John the Apostle Norko and Terrorist Mayor James R. Miron ”
    or
“It was a desperate attempt on the part of Miron”

    Miron accept blame for anything?

  64. 67 jezebel282

    Ron,

“Damn, I sound like George now.”

They say the first step to recovery….

2013 has some pretty valid reasonable questions. I don’t have these answers either.

  65. 68 mayor2013

    Ron,
Where were you during the last 2 mayoral elections? (I do suspect you are one of the candidates for mayor in the last election.)
–I was right there – and watching from afar.
    ######
You suggest that the Mayor being truthful a problem.
–I was more critical of him saying something stupid – I don’t think he was being truthful – I know he is not a stupid person.
    ######
You condemn him for not responding to questions on this blog. I’m sure the Mayor has better things to do.
–He has staff who can answer my questions and they should. This blog has a lot of readers.
    ######

You suggest that children are running the Mayors office.
–Yes, I get frustrated when grownups act like little kids.
    ######

Again where were you then last 8 years.
–I’ve been around a lot longer than you can ever imagine.
    ######

May I suggest that YOU call the Mayors office and ask HIM these questions and get back to us with the answers. I’m sure he will oblige you.
–I cannot reveal myself at this time. If I decide to seek the office, I will do so on this blog – in all good time. And, I will only do so if Mayor Harkins is unable to live up to his election mandate.
    ######

So far, I have no problems with the direction Mayor Harkins is taking our town.
    — I do! And, Ron, (don’t get upset with me, I mean no disrespect,) I know a lot more than you do.
    ######

4 years of horrible decision makeing and time bombs layed by the last administration takes time to defuse.
    — I would have had them all defused by this time.
    ######

  66. 69 ronmoreau

    Jez,
I guess I haven’t read all that he has written.

    Very good questions by 2013.

Should he expect the Mayor to respond here?

I doubt that he has the time to even read the blogs.

E-mails alone must consume a lot of his time. Not to mention the transition of his former job as State Rep. The day to day buisness of the town. Which includes the next budget, the messes the former adminsistration left him, Hiring a staff because the last one bailed out without notice. I could go on and on. Forget some personal life.

2013 is obviously campaigning for the next mayoral election. Debating the Mayor here, trying to shame him , suggesting the Mayor is a lier serves no purpose. He should ask the Mayor these questions and let us know what happened.

  67. 70 sudds

“I would have had them all defused by this time.”

F**K! Only MIRON is pompous enough to make that statement!!!

  68. 71 jezebel282

    Ron,

    Let’s be clear.
I don’t control anyone’s posts. I see them when everyone else does. (There is a little check box at the bottom of the page. WordPress emails the posts to you. I don’t really spend all day doing this).

Does the Mayor read the blog? I don’t know.
Do Town employees and voters read the blog? You betcha they do.

I continue to believe that Mayor Harkins represents our best opportunity in decades to turn the Town around, but 2013 has some very good questions (I’m getting kinda jealous that I didn’t ask them).

Shaming a politician should be difficult to do, not easy. 2013 seems to have no difficulty.

  69. 72 ronmoreau

    2013.

I admit, I do not know all the buisness of the town. I may even be a bit nieve. I do believe we have a GOOD Mayor. Time will tell. It is to our benefit that everyone stand behind him and to move this town forward. If John is the person I believe he is he will be Maror for a long time. If he so chooses.

  70. 73 mayor2013

    Sudds,

If only you knew me – you would not make that statement.

    Ron,

I truly hope you are right-on with John and that he will do the right things for Stratford. I do not question that John is a good man – I know that he is – I only question that he has the fortitude to do what needs to be done – being the mayor is lonely – John does not like to be lonely.

  71. 74 mikereynolds

You know Mayor, this “if you only knew me” bs is going to get old quick here.

Since you have not chosen to let us know who you are then even though you claim you’re going to run for Mayor in 2013 then we are left to comment, either positively or negatively, based on what we read here.

So if you boast that you would have defused all the time bombs by now you invite criticism. Then responding that people don’t know you is weak.

On another note, getting back to the Hoydick/Anderson battle I noticed in the Star that Jason Santi endorsed Anderson. If I’m Janice I’m not exactly jumping up and down that Jason Santi endorsed me. Jason, as we all know, was Mayor Miron’s unofficial spokesman for the last 4 years. His prose (was it really his?) was often found in the CT Post or Star singing the praises of our “great” mayor. He even went so far as to tell Tom Smith and SaveStratford how wrong they were to fight the EPA over the dumping of toxic waste in a residential neighborhood.

So I guess that means that it would be ok to dump toxic waste into the 4th district right Jason? I’m sure your constituents would love that.

If I’m running for office the last thing I want is a Miron supporter and mouthpiece who finds no problem with dumping 100,000 cubic yards of toxic waste in a residential neighborhood supporting me.

That’s a thanks but no thanks situation.

  72. 75 phineast

2013- still waiting to hear you definition of stable. You didn’t answer the question.

Here is what I feel stable is:firmly established, well balanced, steady in purpose, lasting and committed. You have to exhibit these things on a personal level day in and day out on a personal level in order to take them beyond your personal space.
I don’t see that with Janice-sorry-she comes across and has for years as a women’s activist-she may have served on the BOE but what did she actually do there? Was she a leader? Nope. Was there a single thing that you can show me that she has done to improve the quality of life in town? Nope. I just don’t see her being able to improve anything in Stratford, I don’t think she has the ability to make the necessary connections across the isle to work for the greater good. I have had about 17 years of intermittent contact with Janice–and that is what I see. There is no doubt she is well intended-but I just don’t think it is enough to be state rep.
When you add to this the fact that she took “tainted” money from miron, and was part of the miron worship team it shows me that she doesn’t have any common sense either….that is a HUGE reveal of impaired judgment. Now some will say miron’s cash is just as green as anyone else’s but there is a difference—and it was at the expense of the taxpayers.
As a comparison-what I have seen with Laura over the years has been a solid ability to build and maintain relationships both personally and professionally, a strong tendency toward leadership, in the BOE, PTA’s, Sterling House, the Library, the BRBC/COC, Perry House to name a few. It has always been the same message from her:what can we do to improve the quality of life in Stratford/quality of education and then work to get it done. She has an ability to work across party lines to build a consensus to reach the goal and that is what we need for Stratford. I highly doubt that she has taken money from the mirons-and if she has I’ll be questioning her judgment as well, we will have to keep track of both the contribution lists.
Comparing “work” history is a non comparison. Exactly what in Janice’s work background has prepared her to be state rep, other than her ability to collect her check every week? I am not belittling her job-but what exactly is that background going to do for the residents of Stratford in Hartford? The things I see in Laura’s work history are again about leadership, management, service, public relations. These attributes will definitely serve the town well.

I’ll be standing behind Laura as he life long message has been the most stable. She understands that she will be representing the voters not the other way around.

  73. 76 jezebel282

    Mike, Phin:

I agree that “If you only knew me” doesn’t work well, especially for a blogger. It’s the ideas and logic that work here, not the identity.

Nonetheless, 2013’s questions were pretty darn good. If you can vote, that presupposes you are mature enough to made a thoughtful decision ( I know, I know…who does that?). If the news is bad news I still want to hear it. Sometimes politicians forget that it is unreasonable to assume the news is always good.

The clock continues to tick for Harkins. Sometime after June most of Stratford’s problems will be HIS problems and not Miron’s. It would be nice to hear a few details.

If the rumors are true that the current budget is a fairytale and that we are in a deficit, I want to know. Taxpayers should be aware that they should not be expecting a reduction in taxes because their property values have declined. It’s just not going to happen. Thanks, Norko….

I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but I am really tired of spin out of Town Hall.

As for Andersen/Hoydick, I hope the debate gets better for our sakes.

“rubber-stamp the Democrats’ agenda of higher taxes, more debt and fewer jobs,” Hoydick said. “Stratford taxpayers are under assault by a do-nothing, tax-and-spend majority in the General Assembly that has halted job creation, chased businesses out of Connecticut and plunged us into the deepest debt in America.”
This is such a disappointing platform. It almost looks like it was cut and pasted from Fox News. Is she going to demand to see Obama’s birth certificate next?

As for Santi supporting Andersen, it is just another nail pounded into her campaign coffin. She had a brief opportunity to walk away from Miron/Buturla/Miller but she has apparently slammed that window shut.

  74. 77 phineast

Jez- “This is such a disappointing platform”.
While this may be disappointing that we even have to discuss it what she says is true. I know for certain that is not her entire platform-just ask her. Laura is a straight forward, and does not sugar coat the truth to make it more palatable. Just like in the recent mayoral election, I suggest you go directly to each of them and talk to them directly. Laura will answer your questions and I am sure that Janice will try-but she will change the topic a couple of times to things she is more comfortable with, that is what happened when I spoke to her, which left me frustrated and feeling there was either a lack of overall knowledge or what I refer to as the DTC disease-which is a chronic case of bad judgment; that did not happen with Laura which is one of several reasons I will stand behind her. Let me know what happens when you talk to them. It should be interesting.

  75. 78 jezebel282

    Phin,

    “what she says is true.”

That, my friend, is a whole ‘nother discussion I’d love to have with you.

“I suggest you go directly to each of them and talk to them directly.”

It is a good suggestion. I prefer, however, statements made in public and for the record. Let me tell you about this guy named “Miron” who made all kinds of promises in private and then…..

  76. 79 mayor2013

Phin, Mike and Jez, Obviously, you have all made your decisions to vote for Hoydick. And, I have no argument with your decisions.

Mike, I’m sorry if you feel I am getting old. I will run for mayor if Mayor Harkins does not live up to his election mandate. And, I will give him a race! Yes, I would have taken action against what was hanging around from Miron. The police issue would have been resolved and both officers would be back on the force. The two deputy chiefs of police and fire would have been terminated and recruitments for their replacements in the works. Both chiefs would be told to begin a search for new employment – immediately. I am not going to address Justin Loschiavo, because I believe he will be history soon. Although, I find it interesting that he has been “out sick” and not even working – but still collecting his full pay check. The budget issue would have been exposed and my plans to address it would be shared with the community – from district to district I would travel. And, the five former administrators would have been arrested for stealing money. Long Beach is over, sadly. A plan to demolish the Shakespeare Theatre and replace it with perhaps a Trader’s Joe or something similar would be under consideration by an Economic Development Director who is pounding the sand for development – and not working on his real estate profession. Mr. Alessie would be history! And, a finance administrator would have been retained, even if it was temporary. I would never ever have allowed sweet-talking Susan Collier to be running the Finance Department. And, Linda Loschiavo would be retired – she is an at will employee – and should not still be employed. And one final move, I would have terminated the potty mouth Tax Assessor. I would have ordered the study of privatizing “refuse pickup.” And, I would have retained a contract for a “forensic” audit of the Finance and Mayor’s offices. If the AG office declined to do it; I would as the town attorney to identify where the funds to fund it can come from and if none can be found – I’d personally donate the funds to authorize it.

I know you are all fans of John. So am I. I hope he is up to the challenge – so far I am not impressed. I have asked serious questions addressing his actions and so far he has failed to respond.

  77. 80 jezebel282

    2013,

Sadly, I am stuck with the old Mironista, Terry Backer. I can’t vote for either Andersen or Hoydick.

“I have asked serious questions addressing his actions and so far he has failed to respond.”

Yes, you have and no, he hasn’t.

  78. 81 mikereynolds

My God you’re right! Its all so easy! Anyone should be able to do this.

It must be real easy to get all those things done from the cheap seats.

  79. 82 mayor2013

What is easy is making promises you do not keep. John knew (or let me re-phase, should have known) what immediately was facing him – and he should have had a plan. And, Mike, a lame excuse is he lost all of his administrators – they never showed up – you would have to be pretty dumb to suspect they would be waiting to breathlessly serve you . . . it did not take a rocket scientist to have figured that and when he heard nothing from the former mayor – he should have known they were busily “cashing out” compliments of the taxpayers. Although, I will give him credit for at least addressing it and trying to recoup as much as possible.

  80. 83 mayor2013

Cheap seats ????? John and his administration are in all the paid seats. The taxpayers in short time, will be their judge.

  81. 84 phineast

2013-regarding your post # 79 you are indeed very very naive.
To terminate both deputy chiefs is not as easy as it looks-though come time for the council budget vote it may be. Yes, they are “at will” but both would most likely play the race card. So, unfortunately, we have to wait for the positions to be cut from the budget. It is also illegal to fire a police chief without a full case of just cause-it is part of the CT state statutes-as for building a case-it is being done. Your lack of comment on Justin is interesting….we want him to be history-but without a cent from the taxpayers for the rest of his life, in order to do that it has to be proven that he was improperly hired. Do you honestly think that John B. is going to investigate that???????? If the mayor orders it he will have to. So an order from the Mayor’s office is certainly in order. Once it is proven he was improperly hired it has a domino effect-there are at least 2 people that will lose their pensions, one formerly of the PD and the other still in HR-this would create a windfall savings for the taxpayers. While we are waiting for that to happen may I suggest you read copies of the collective bargaining agreement that allows Justin to collect. It was intended to protect the REAL police officers that do REAL work if they were injured in the line of duty. Having an accident caused by a PRE-existing condition was not a consideration when the contract was drawn up–after all who would ever dream that someone would be corrupt or stupid enough to hire someone as a police officer with a seizure disorder?
I am glad to hear you would expose the budget issue-but would you do it before or after you knew the full scope of damage left by the wake of miron? Can you prove that those administrators took that money without permission? You would have potential criminal reason to go after miron and Norko as they did the calculations and the authorizations. I agree with you that S.C., L.L and that foul mouth tax accessor would be gone. Too many good people looking for work right now to keep the bottom feeders. Though I disagree about the refuse collection-bad idea for a short term savings-and it would be short term I assure you.
If you are willing to pay for a forensic audit, why wait? Do it now. Then it will be done.
The contract for the mayor during miron’s tenure was set 3 councils ago-why would you think that anyone other than those that made the suggestions and voted on it would know that miron could cash out-it was part of miron’s job during the transition to advise Harkins that these things were occurring. He failed to do his job. No big shocker there-he had already failed for 4 long years. Why would you expect anything different when he was nursing his wounded ego?
With regard to your comment about reinstatement of the officers–again it is not as easy as it looks-once the criminal charges are dismissed that is different-I do not know if the mayor can re-instate their pay while suspended-maybe the T.A. can answer that question.

Mike- I don’t think 2013 understood that he is the one in the “cheap” seat…part of the peanut gallery. Like the rest of us.

  83. 86 jezebel282

    Phin,

“Yes, they are “at will” but both would most likely play the race card.”

    Really? That’s a valid reason?
I dunno, but that sounds kinda racist to me.

“but would you do it before or after you knew the full scope of damage left by the wake of miron? Can you prove that those administrators took that money without permission?”
This argument is a tad circular. That’s what a forensic audit does. It provides evidence of a crime. If the Attorney General’s office refuses to conduct the audit (now THERE would be a bipartisan effort; A Republican asking a Democrat to investigate another “Democrat”) there is the FBI.
Although we’ve been waiting (forever) to get the FBI to DO something, this seems to be exactly what they were created to do.
From the FBI website: “Public corruption is one of the FBI’s top investigative priorities—behind only terrorism, espionage, and cyber crimes. Why? Because of its impact on our democracy and national security. Public corruption can affect everything from how well our borders are secured and our neighborhoods protected…to verdicts handed down in courts…to the quality of our roads and schools. And it takes a significant toll on our pocketbooks, too, siphoning off tax dollars.” http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/pubcorrupt/pubcorrupt.htm

It would only take a phone call from Harkins to find out….

“I do not know if the mayor can re-instate their pay while suspended-maybe the T.A. can answer that question.”
Many many officers throughout the country have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of civil/criminal trials. There is a presumption of innocence even for cops. The choice was John Buturla’s and approved by Miron. It is easily reversed.

As for privatizing Town services, I would much rather see an improvement in efficiency rather than privatization.

2013 may not be a rabid Harkins fan, but does ask valid questions that deserve attention and discussion. Even the Mironistas that posted here were entitled to that. Maybe I’ve become jaded, but I do remember Dick Miron walking the halls of Town Hall saying, “give the kid a chance”. Right before he started firing every single honest employee in town.

  84. 87 jezebel282

    George,

“As long as you are posting for the Fire Department Equipment, why
not ask to SKI MASKS to be GOVERNMENT and PARTY Standard issue”

What makes you think Cavanaugh would order them? He STILL hasn’t gotten the radios and boots that he said he ordered in October.

  85. 88 phineast

George-do you work for free? Do you work at all? Since historicaly you have proclaimed yourself to be part of Stratford business I guess you have no shame? You are laughing at yourself as well? Maybe you got some of your “clients” from your volunteer work or gadfly work??
While I agree that there are far too many attorneys on the pay out list in town and I would like to see that consolidated for the sake of accountability of hours and cases, the fact remains that the Town of Stratford has legal work that needs to be done and some one has to do it. I would rather that someone be a Stratford resident, personally.
Are you saying that the individuals on your list that actually did the work and put in the time(legitimately) are not entitled to a pension that was fairly negotiated by the town and voted on by union members and council? Are you saying that if you do any volunteering for the town you can’t hold a job or be married to one that holds a job? You are out of your mind! Yes there are people that abuse the system like Lo(s), Delito, miron(s),BMD(?)..but not everyone abuses the system.
I would hope that former members of the council would have had knowledge of projects that came before their council-what do you expect them to do after their terms magically erase that information from their minds? What you are saying is that if you retire or leave one job in town but are QUALIFIED to do another job in town you can’t apply or accept that job? Are you for real, George?
It is just like if you get fired from a job for whatever reason-and you take the information that you gained from that job and use it–whether it is just to bash them(usps) or to reveal real issues that need to be dealt with…you have used what you knew to your advantage…what makes you so different? Don’t you collect $$ for doing nothing every month? (pension or disability?).
There are cases that you have listed, that if they bother you so much, that are unethical, file a complaint–see if the commission will do their job. It is a shame that you see a skeleton in EVERY closet-because there are many people on your McCarthy list that have genuinely done a good job, given a boat load of time to make the community better for all, and have not received one cent, or one cent more than they have earned legitimately. Yes there are some that have taken advantage.
Other that your 5 minutes as an alternate on a council committee what exactly have you done to improve the quality of life in town? Have you given time to clean up the waterfront? Have you given time to build/ restore a park or a playground? Have you given time to help with the miles of paperwork that are involved in running an organization like EMS? Have you volunteered at the library or the senior center? Do you do anything other than creative writing? Have you given your time as a citizen at large to any of the countless commissions or committees in town? You don’t have to be appointed to participate-a misnomer that people believe….
Yes, George, there really are people out there that are doing things for the community that do not personally benefit from what they are doing.Actually sometimes no good deed goes unpunished, and not everyone is in it for recognition or compensation.
Time to put up, George-or…..put a sock in it.

  86. 89 phineast

Jez-think about it–2 black d/c let go, no reason, just let go-and you think they won’t pull the race card out??? Hmmmm-maybe you should attend on of the lectures that Riddenhouse has been giving. 😉 I would be more comfortable if there was a valid reason for dismissal other than miron hired you–it will save some legal costs. If both positions are cut from the budget due to the huge deficit miron left behind, that is legitimate.
I would love a forensic audit. It would put a rrest to the bs….
With regard to McNei/Sotol-I want them reinstated but I don’t want any mis-steps along the way other than the ones we are already stuck with. What legal ramifications would there be if their pay was reinstated at this point? Would it effect the ultimate civil case that is coming down the pike? Would it set them up for a larger award from the town? I would like to be sure of all the angles-as to not create a bigger problem than we already have. Call me cautious-

  87. 90 mayor2013

    Phin,
Thank’s for your critique. I respect and welcome it. I feel that all the “wrongs” must be reversed and there is not a day to postpone them. I have raised the issues because I was challenged to do so and it appears we are contemplating about ways to immediately address them – and some we actually agree on. I hope John’s administration is paying attention.

If restoring the salaries to those 2 police officers pending the dismissal of the criminal charges is possible – then just do it.
Are you telling me that nothing can be done to encourage the Chiefs’ departures??
Here are a few that come to mind:
    (1) Park their take-home vehicles;
    (2) Drive them crazy with reporting to the Mayor from arrival to departure;
    (3) Ask for all kinds of written reports – every day
    (4) Establish written goals and monitor their progress daily i.e. every day!!!!!
    (5) Order that the departments become officially “accredited” within one year (this alone will send him out) etc etc etc etc etc

Did you know that the 2 deputys have nothing or very little to do (for the most part they spend their days reading the newspapers??????)

As a taxpayer, I’m entitled to take all the “cheap” shots from the peanut gallery as I wish.

It is Mayor Harkin’s responsibility to find the funds required for a “forensic” audit. Not mine. If it was mine, it would have been initiated within 30 days of my swearing-in.

  88. 91 jezebel282

    Phin,

“Jez-think about it–2 black d/c let go, no reason, just let go-and you think they won’t pull the race card out???”

It’s actually difficult for me to think that way. I would prefer not to. I’m pretty sure I understand why Miron hired them in the first place. I’m not sure I understand why we should continue that. There are 50+ Town employees that Miron “just let go”. He certainly didn’t have much reason. The voters, for whatever reason, decided that “at-will” employment was a good thing. It’s not like it would be a surprise to anyone Miron hired.

“What legal ramifications would there be if their pay was reinstated at this point?”

None that I can think of. Their status would simply change from suspended without pay to suspended with pay. The ramification would be that they are not being punished before they have been found guilty of anything at all. If the “charges” are dismissed or withdrawn, you can bet that back pay while be a prime issue for both Captain McNeil and Lt. Soto. Paying them now would only mitigate the damages. I’m not sure what the legal term would be other than “mitigated damages” . Is there a legal term for “the right thing to do”?

“I would like to be sure of all the angles-as to not create a bigger problem than we already have. Call me cautious-”

LOL! I’m sure lot’s of people call you & me many more things than “cautious”. But that is not a reason to do nothing.

  89. 92 phineast

2013- lots can be done to encourage their departure-but you have to get the “chief” to assist you and that is NOT going to happen when their heads are what people really want to roll too.
I agree about the restoration of pay to the guys as long as we are clear on the impact it will have down the road with their lawsuits.
Yes, I am well aware that the FD chief has nothing to do but read his papers and lift weights–I was a witness to it when I was there trying to get something addressed.
The pd admin capt is given a ton of work because the top dog(s) doesn’t do much…getting rid of the d/c would force the chief to actually do his job…..yeah, right….it would also force a much heavier load to an already stretched admin. capt. who actually carries much of the load now.
The take home vehicles are part of a terms of employment-but giving Chief Buturla a smart car may just do the trick …
Just remember when you shoot from the peanut gallery to do it with a loaded chamber and not the blanks that you’ve been firing.
As taxpayers we have the right to expect and demand the best use for our dollars. A reorganization of resources is definitely in order- and now that it is contract season this is your opportunity to make your voice heard both in the mayor’s office and in the council chamber to affect changes. Just be sure you have your information correct and be clear on your expectations when you present them. In other words research your ideas and don’t shoot from the hip when presenting….doing it here is one thing but out there be very very clear.

  90. 93 1george1

    George-do you work for free?

Politics has not only not made me no money (nor do I want any)
    It has cost me significantly.
However spending money to try to protect people’s lives and livelihoods
is money I do not mind spending.

    Do you work at all?

    Yes

Since historicaly you have proclaimed yourself to be part of
    Stratford business

Indirectly I am part of Stratford business.
I also pay Business property tax.

I guess you have no shame?

    Guess?
    Predicated on what specific?

You are laughing at yourself as well?

    Why not?
Don’t you ever take time to make fun of yourself?
I have often teased and kidded others on the website.
Sometimes I get nailed, where I LOL.
Sometimes there are personal attacks, rather than political?
Very difficult to claim I make personal attacks vs. anonymous
    posters, isn’t it?
When I listed the above, didn’t I list related to political.
Apology to Ron Moreau and others related to “all about george,”
however I touched a nerve or guilty conscience of Phin ….
and he decided to guess ….
try to project shame. where none is warranted nor deserved
unless you or others can or would be unkind enough to be
very specific …. about benefit from politics.
confession: I have asked business related questions that are
FREELY ACCESSIBLE in various towns and states that I work.

Maybe you got some of your “clients” from your volunteer work
    or gadfly work??

    Sorry to disappoint you.
Retrospectively, I learned there were political, business, and social
organizations who had / have their own agenda.
They were able to hire me and others, without myself or any of the
others having a clue that were were human chess, analogous to golum
    and scapegoats.
Their is a superior intelligence which accessed various religious, ethnic,
political, and other groups, also without their knowledge.
FOR ALL OF US, WE ARE CONSIDERED “UNWITTING.”
That is why and how I can defend Unions, who knew quid pro quo and
how I could defend certain political people.
IF, IF IF, there was an FBI / JUSTICE attempted clean up of Stratford, I
am ethically bound (under my ethics) to make defense aware preempting
    prosecution.
What was the end game of making the entire system corrupt?
NO ONE COULD PROSECUTE TRAITORS, WAR CRIMINALS, and

  91. 94 1george1

Yes, George, there really are people out there that are doing things for the community that do not personally benefit from what they are doing.

WHAT HAVE YOU EVER DONE FOR ANYONE?

Actually sometimes no good deed goes unpunished,

I POSTED / STATED SAME FOR YEARS

and not everyone is in it for recognition or compensation.

RECOGNITION – like making myself a laughing stock placing an
attempted murder SLASHED TIRE around my neck, where the
police report did not reflect what I handed to the “officer”
and I later told Jimmy who slashed my tire, as well as the police.
COMPENSATION: Like trying to sue mO.S.S.man in person and not
anyone else, but my Lawyer did what he wanted to do, and then
arranged for the nephew of ex-Bpt City attorney to misrepresent
me, in a court next to an ex-U. S. Attorney, now/then Federal
Judge who sent written replies to my requests to INVESTIGATE
a SERIES of MURDERS, which neither Mossman / nor Droney would
    investigate. Nor the FBI.

Time to put up, George-or…..put a sock in it.

YOU ARE NOT MAN ENOUGH to ever DIRECT ME to do anything.
conversely, I welcome your cowardly attempts towards that end,
and I welcome your political opinions.
    You are not stupid.
Ignorant and knowledgeable about town situations! Yes.
    Stupid. No.

    ————-

fairly negotiated by the town and voted on by union members and council?

    1) IF, IF, IF there is proveable FRAUD and/or CONSPIRACY a contract,
arbitration award, court decision, legislation, Contract –
    > each can be vacated, with cause!
    > Is there quid pro quo as Motive for 25 years of conspriacy + silence?

    2) Jeze and others are aware, Towns and States, as well as business can
declare Chapter 11 and the courts can set aside pensions.

    3) How much did each person CONTRIBUTE to their PENSIONS?

Example – Social Security is a DEFINED CONTRIBUTION PLAN
Compare social security to ANY town Pension over $ 25,000

Example – Sikorsky workers negotiated pension is $ 68 for every month
worked to gain their 30 year pension of $ 24,480.
    $ 68 x 360 = $ 24,480

$ 68 per month devided by 160 hour straight time = 42.5 cents per hour.
The Sikorsky craft people have vacation, sickleave, holidays, to lower the
straight pay to under 150 hours average worked per month, however they
work a lot of over time.

I could not care less about who gets what, per pensions, IF THEY were
FULLY FUNDED and PROPERLY RUN and completely self contained.

Phin – It was HARTFORD, not me, who passed the anti-corruption law
where they intend to take away your pensions.

Phin – It was D. C. who allowed rappant corruption, drug traffic, war
and crime to transfer the USA CAPITALIST wealth to COMMUNIST Russia,
    COMMUNIST China, SLAVE PETRO-Dictators WAR LORDS of O. P. E. C.

Phin – I am not the one who always intended to double cross you with
    an unsustainable ponzi scheme.
Had the Town, and Newspapers and FBI corrected the situation 4 – 5 years
ago, when it became apparent what was happening, the PENSION would
    be so much more viable.

Phin – I am not the one with a PENSION $ 49,000 over Base Pay, nor the
ones who intentionally caused it because they ALWAYS intended to
    betray all of you.

Lastly, if you and our fellow americans were walking into an ambush,
where you and out families could be devastated
who would you trust in the fox hole?
    Me
    or
Any of those people who betrayed you and betrayed the taxpayers.
THEY PROVED THEY HAD A PRICE, DIDN’T THEY……

KNOW WHAT PEOPLE WHO SELL THEIR BODIES FOR A PRICE ARE?

KNOW WHAT PEOPLE WHO SELL THEIR MINDS FOR A PRICE ARE?
    Lawyers
    Politicians

  92. 95 1george1

    2013…

“stable” – Ms. Andersen has a more stable work history and work
    record than Ms. Hoydick.

So, leaving a job to take a better job makes one unstable???
    Seriously???

It does not appear better jobs … necessarialy follow.
However, my intent is not to get into personal / career issues,
whereas my intent is to look at the “political decisions” and that
it can benefit family / friends / personal …..

To be fairer to Ms. Hoydic, who I do NOT dislike:
    I worked for USPS 1971-1988 = Stable
1984 – 1988 whole Southport USPS office was “going postal” mIRONesque.

My subsequent work history would be considered unstable.
At least until the last couple of years, comparison to the entire USA ….

Jeze a few of your wise cracks got a SMILE.

Mayor 2013 + Phin had interesting posts, for different reasons,
and somewhat different perspectives and sensitivity or lack thereof.

As for Forensic Audit, I have personally witnessed GIGO, in Stratford
    and in Business.
I have personally witness compassionate and excellent police, fire,
EMS, Town Hall, RTC, DTC, and others.
    Conversely …. 😦

  93. 96 jezebel282

    Phin,

Dammit! Look at the mess you made!

  94. 97 phineast

George- !s off, I will be one of the people that will never be able to retire because I have no pension. I like other people have a small savings that has been eaten up by college loan repayment and a host of other escalating costs that my salary does not escalate to. I have virtually stopped my spending other than on the necessities like groceries and the monthly bills. But let me tell you this, I fairly negotiated my salary and benefits and if anyone tried to unfairly take them away I would seek not only legal means but a way to sink the ship that tried to take them. I would never put in for time I did not work-that is not my style- That being said, basically what you have said is that anyone who works using their mind or anything else is a prostitute-people have jobs…yes jobs, that require expertise including using their minds. You work by your own admission..does that put you into the category? In every field there are good people and bad people, it doesn’t mean that every person worked the system that was set up by others. We read alot about the ones who did. Your “Mc Carthy list” is ridiculous-yes a few of the people deserve to be on it but most? I do believe that there are many times that you can be just as misinformed as anyone else-much of what you write is on presumption. When I said put up or put a sock in it-I meant it-back it up with facts and try giving your time to make the town a better place for the community and not just to receive accolades and press coverage. I give anywhere between 6-12 hours a week to the community-just to make it better-no gain personally-but to make the community better. So if I lack sensitivity, sorry, I work hard and I work hard for the community and know a lot of things that you presume I don’t.

Jez-sorry-if we have to scroll it might as well be somewhat relevant or related to topic.

  95. 98 1george1

“I will be one of the people that will never be able to retire
    because I have no pension.”

You have my empathy and sympathy.
If you read my post, I favor raising social security payments
    and the lower pensions.
I have a USPS pension at age 62.
    I have social security.
Non issues to me at this time.

“I like other people have a small savings that has been eaten up by
college loan repayment and a host of other escalating costs that
my salary does not escalate to.”

You have my empathy and sympathy, as my posts for seniors, vets,
families and individuals having lower taxes bu 33 %, believing we pay
50 % too much, because of wilfull political decisions.

“I have virtually stopped my spending other than on the necessities
like groceries and the monthly bills.”

Too many people in same boat!
I market directly to companies with 50 + employees.
Places with 500 – 2 years ago, down to 100 now and out of state by 2011.
Places with 350 down to 35, like Arkwright Guilford
Stratford’s Dianon 350 went to Shelton
    Stratford’s Mobil 350 closed.

But let me tell you this, I fairly negotiated my salary and benefits

I believe I have reliable information town / boe negotiations were quid
pro quo and NOT “fairly negotiated.” Phin – understand the difference?

and if anyone tried to unfairly take them away I would seek not only
legal means but a way to sink the ship that tried to take them.

AT LAST – I am trying to awaken some people about the real danger of
violence, which invariably involves the wrong targets, like police and/or
    local management.

I would never put in for time I did not work-that is not my style –

    I COMPLIMENT YOU.

That being said, basically what you have said is that anyone who
works using their mind or anything else is a prostitute
-people have jobs…yes jobs, that require expertise including using
their minds. You work by your own admission..does that put you
    into the category?

PHIN – You are more intelligent than to try to put YOUR DEFININTIONS
into someone else’s words, by twisting them, poorly….
There are intellectual, legal, political, and business prostitutes.
There are legitimate intellectual, legal, political, and business interests.
Much depends on your perspective and my perspective?
Some of that depends on who pays and who benefits?
Much depends if FAIR VALUE was PAID, by what reasonable people would
likely be willing to pay for that which others benefit?

“In every field there are good people and bad people,”

    AGREED!

“it doesn’t mean that every person worked the system that was set up
    by others.”

AGREED. However, there is far more to the situation than you KNOW
or would be willing to even consider believing.

We read alot about the ones who did.

“Your “Mc Carthy list” is ridiculous-
yes a few of the people deserve to be on it but most?”

What I know to be true from years of observation and information
cross references does not readily read in the format I placed it
    and indisputeable.
Additionally, some of those identified with “projects” were not insults!
Additionally, some of those identified with “projects” were possibly
legitimate political interests to benefit stratford.

I do believe that there are many times that you can be just as misinformed
as anyone else-much of what you write is on presumption.

Phin, believe what you will and I welcome your positions.
I have learned various things from your posts.
And I intentionally stirred the pot, to get you ticked.
The opposite of love isn’t hate, it is apathy.
    Your reply was not apathetic.
My taking my time to reply, is also not apathy.

“When I said put up or put a sock in it –
I meant it-back it up with facts and try giving your time to make
the town a better place for the community and not just to receive
    accolades and press coverage.”

I appreciate the clarification. I misread the suggestion … 😉

    JEZE – SMALL FAVOR
PLEASE POST WHO IS THE MOST HATED MAN IN THIS BLOG?

    Accolades?
    I have gotten a few.
They do not pay my mortgage.

    Press coverage?
Cut down the number of family / friends dying….
Having NECK TIRE and being internet and media LAUGHING STOCK,
    $ 150 for Tire + Balance/Rotation
More Town Committee members and Town Employee / Pensioners
read my letters and understand them than ignorant (not stupid)
general population. I do myself no favor trying to advise pleople
they acted against their oaths, mandates, and self interests.

    Financial gain?
Perhaps a million lost or spent in my life to try to protect others?

“I give anywhere between 6-12 hours a week to the community

Because you choose to be anonymous, there is no way to confirm

to make for a better comunity!

“So if I lack sensitivity, sorry,”

Phin – If the apology was to me … it was not necessary.
I love people with STRONG BELIEFS and GOOD PEOPLE.
Conversely, I intentionally stir the pot, as I have posted

“I work hard and I work hard for the community
and know a lot of things that you presume I don’t.”

Phin – Stratford is a small town of 50,000.
Many people know pieces of the puzzle.
Jeze, allies, readers, and other bloggers are prime examples.
I know different pieces of the puzzle than most people.

I respect Jeze for not being apathetic
despite being too often myopic and hard headed. 🙂

I look forward to your posts.
You have many interesting insights, and I even agree with more than

George, thank you for the compliments…I think. 🙂
I chose to “stir the pot” to get you to understand that you need to be really sure about what you write on your “List” and how it comes across. If I am naming someone I am absolutely certain of who and why-if I have a question it is a written clearly as a question-not put out as what appears to be an accusation–at least I try very hard not to.
Oh, by the way, George, everyone dies some day….obviously you have had to deal with much :(…but it will eventually happen to every single one of us, hopefully later rather than sooner.

  98. 101 1george1

    Phin,

You are welcome not only for the compliments,
but for my empathy for your situation.

    Death?
    Can’t kill a dead man.
    Slaves welcome death.
    Believers welcome god.

  99. 102 sylvia67

Laura Hoydick is a wonderful person and please stop with all your nonsense. If you don’t know her as well as I do then I don’t think you have much to say. Anyone who is in with Miron is not what this town needs, so be careful. Laura is not only an outstanding human being, but she displays class which is sorely missing with the candidate that is running against her. Remember a Vote for Laura Hoydick is a win for the town of Stratford. That is very important to all of us. Laura, you have many of my supporters who are coming out for you on Mar. 2nd.

  100. 103 jezebel282

    Sylvia,

“Laura Hoydick is a wonderful person and please stop with all your nonsense. ”

The comments were about her unfortunate position of blaming all evil on Democrats.

  101. 104 cstratct

Just so we’re straight on this Sylvia: It’s okay for you to imply that Ms. Anderson is classless, which you just did in your post, but not okay to question Ms. Hoydick’s positions? How very “democratic” of you.

  102. 105 sylvia67

“The comments were about her unfortunate position of blaming all evil on Democrats.” Jezeabel282, I don’t think Laura’s positions are unfortunate at all. The buck stops with Democrats because they have been in the majority in CT government for years. Republicans have had the governor’s office, but in the state legislature their numbers have been falling. So Democrats have had years to control the state’s budget and we now have to pay for the consequences. I’m not saying Republicans would necessarily be better. But it is ridiculous that Democrats continue to act as if nothing has happened, and continue to follow the same policies that got us into this mess. Raising taxes, spending more of our money on failed programs, running up debt, etc. Laura wants to oppose that which is just about all Republicans can do without the votes. As for Anderson, she is a Mironite and shame on her for that. Cstratct, I wrote that post only to give my personal opinion of Laura, who I have known for many years. I never said you shouldn’t question her positions. Go ahead. Please just do so on substance.

Ella Grasso who was a very close friend of mine and the Democratic governor told me several times that she was in perfect health until she became governor. She tried to set the state right, but was blocked mostly by fellow Democrats. They made her sick to death, and I have never forgotten that. It was a shame because Ella was a great person.

  103. 106 phineast

CT-anyone that continues to support and accept support from the mirons not only lacks class but also lacks good judgment. It is unfortunate that Janice continues her affiliation to the miron’s it makes anyone with a shred of intelligence question her motive. Just an observation and an opinion. I would feel the same way about any candidate for any position that had a miron affiliation. People in this town who weren’t in miron’s pocket will have a terrible taste of bile in their mouths from all the lies and garbage he shoved down the throats of the public–why would anyone in their right mind want that association?

  104. 107 jezebel282

    Sylvia,

“I don’t think Laura’s positions are unfortunate at all.”

Let’s slow down here a bit. No one is saying either candidate shouldn’t run.

However, for Ms. Hoydick to imply that everything that has gone wrong in CT is the Democratic Party’s fault is not a solution. Just because the RNC has become the party of “no” and has ground government to a halt, we do not need to replicate that in Hartford. We don’t elect officials to point fingers at “villains”, we elect them to solve problems. If Ms. Hoydick lacks solutions, why should we vote for her? Are we supposed to elect her so she can cast a “no” vote against anything a Democrat supports?

Hopefully her next presentation and statements can include a positive message of what she intends to do. Frankly, anyone can vote “no” all the time. It doesn’t take much intelligence.

As for Ms. Andersen…well, what can you say? She has had ample opportunity to step away from the Mirons/Buturlas/Miller and she did not. Oh well. She can look forward to years of private volunteer service.

  105. 108 jezebel282

    Update:

Andersen: Middle class voice needs to be heard

    Written by John Kovach
    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:16

“…When Harkins blamed majority Democrats for lack of progress in Hartford during the mayoral debates, former Mayor James R. Miron suggested the town might therefore need to elect someone in the majority…”

And there goes Andersen’s campaign. Right down the Miron-toilet. Some people just never learn.

  106. 109 mikereynolds

Has Miron pulled some Jedi mind tricks on people? What is the source of this mis-guided loyalty to an absolute disaster of a leader and politician?

What is it? Someone please explain this to me? Have we all missed something?

How could a woman who is educated and has enough fortitude to run for public office continue to align herself with an ex-Mayor who embarrassed the town of Stratford and himself and was summarily booted out of office not 4 months ago?

  107. 110 jezebel282

    Mike,

The same way that the DTC re-elected Richard Miron, Rich Buturla, Kent Miller, Heather Habelka, et al.

    They just never ever learn.

  108. 111 cstratct

Hold on Jezebel. You quote the article as if those words came from Ms. Andersen.

But that portion of the article was not a quote from Ms. Andersen. When reading the article it appeared to me as if Mr. Kovach was asking whether Ms. Andersen agreed with the idea that electing someone in the majority party would help get things accomplished. Nowhere in the article did I see Ms. Andersen quote James Miron. She did agree with the concept that having someone who is a member of the majority party rather than the minority would provide better “access.”

Are you suggesting that with a state government that is a predominantly Democratic Stratford wouldn’t benefit from having a Democratic representative? It’s party politics without a doubt, but it happens at every level from municipal to federal.

At least present the information in the article accurately.

    Excerpt from the Stratford Star:

When Harkins blamed majority Democrats for lack of progress in Hartford during the mayoral debates, former Mayor James R. Miron suggested the town might therefore need to elect someone in the majority.

“In the majority, you do have a little more access,” Andersen said. “You have better access to people’s ears that you wouldn’t have otherwise. It gives you the ability to negotiate things that haven’t been able to happen for Stratford. I’m looking to bring money into Stratford that may not have happened otherwise.”

Granted, she seemed to be fumbling a bit in her logic (the last sentence is just awkward), but I didn’t get the impression she was quoting Miron so much as she was responding to a question posed by the reporter.

  109. 112 jezebel282

I guess my point is that Ms. Andersen had ample opportunity in this long piece to step away from Miron and distance herself from the DTC gang. Especially after it was pointed out that she has accepted campaign contribution from Miron after he left with a lot of Town money in his pocket. Frankly, it was just politically inept not to do so.

I am heartened to see that Ms. Hoydick has toned down her rhetoric and chosen not to jump on the “No” bandwagon.

  110. 113 phineast

    I agree Jez-

CT-what you heard at the debate was clear lack of ability. Janice is a nice lady and I appreciate that she wants to represent the town, but she is not up to the job.
Laura on the other hand is, and she has the intestinal fortitude to put the party aside and do what is right for the town-she has done so before.

  111. 114 cstratct

    Phin,

No offense, but that is what YOU heard at the debate. Everyone has an opinion and a perspective with respect to the candidates. It is also your opinion that “she is not up to the job.”

    Jezebel,

Thanks for the clarification. I just thought the way you presented it was misleading as when I read the article for myself I didn’t get the impression that Mr. Kovach was quoting her. That’s all.

  112. 115 1george1

    Syl,

Phin – Syl – While Laura has a lot of fine attributes as a person ….
My first hand experience is that she + RTC are not good for Stratford.

I hammered Jimmy in the debates for inability to be truthful.
I basically agree with Mike R’s post.

Phin – My knowledge about Janice is minimal, except she appeared
competent and intelligent, in a Town Council debate. I do not know
that she is up to the job or not?

I choose not to run for the office, despite my believing neither is a
good choice, mostly because of the parties’ leaders supporting them.

Stratford has mostly been controlled by the Republicans and Burturla.

Jeze I was impressed with your answer to Sylvia.
I also felt your analysis about Ms.Hoydic and Andersen was intelligent
and mostly lacked a certain style used in past writing ….

Maybe having Jimmy out of office for 4 months is starting to take affect?

    Chris
Is capable of expressing intelligent opinions and being contrary,
and passionate, which are attributes I admire.
It can be fun arguing with Chris.
I have also learned some stuff, related to Snake spear.

Someone who enjoys cartoons (Family guy, etc) recognizes that
some things in that genre allows points of views not seen or heard
    in mainstream “entertainment.”
Comics and comedians are often the most accurate social critics,
because they see the absurdity of ….

  113. 116 phineast

CT- actually while you are correct that IS what I came away with-I was NOT ALONE in what I came away with-so there is validity to what I heard. She may be able to do a bit here and a bit there but she is not the one that will give Stratford credibility or a voice. This is about how she approaches issues and how she interacts with people and her judgment-she is not ready for a position of this caliber at this point in time and she may not ever be. It was very interesting-a person that was at the debate who has a PHD in psychology was the one that actually made a very convincing argument that she is not up to the job-and it was about what she said and how she said it combined with her body language. He dissected it. Interesting what can be read from those things in combination and separately….these are some of the same tools that are used in screening applicants for jobs-which is what his job is and is very successful in his line of work. He is able to “read” people as they answer questions some under pressure and observe them when they are removed from the pressure situation. He approached that debate as if he were observing an applicant for a job, which is exactly what it was in actuality. Unfortunately, he said that if she were truly “applying for the job” he would have removed her from the applicant pool and she would not have gotten to the second interview. He said Laura would have made it to the second interview, but he would reserve further opinion until he heard Laura debate again. While I came away with my opinion based on my perspective of listening to them talk and previous experiences with both women, he formulated an opinion based on clinical technique and content only. The most interesting thing is that our conclusions were the same.
What it boils down to is that opinions matter, especially in the voting booth.

One thing I came away with from your comment to Jez about Ms. Anderson’s majority party/better access statement is that the current majority is not there for the voters and the people of this state-they are there to serve fellow majority party members. Based on those comments alone I would be hard pressed to support a current “majority party” member because it appears they are not working for the common greater good but only the greater good of their own party. That is not a good thing at all-it creates EXTREME distrust. Isn’t Terry Backer a majority member? Why hasn’t his affiliation with the majority benefited Stratford with regard to the ECS funding etc.? Why is that?

  114. 117 jezebel282

    Phin,

“Isn’t Terry Backer a majority member? Why hasn’t his affiliation with the majority benefited Stratford with regard to the ECS funding etc.? Why is that?”

Yes, Terry Backer is a member of the majority party, a DTC member and former Miron campaign manager.

Therein lies your answer. If you need more clarification, let me know.

  115. 118 phineast

Jez, it was a bit of sarcasm directed to CT–I was very clear on it when I wrote it.

  116. 119 jezebel282

    Phin,

“Jez, it was a bit of sarcasm”

    Hey! That’s MY job!

  117. 120 1george1

    Phin
I agree with your opinion, in general.
I was not at that debate.
I would be curious if your expert would view the mayoral debates
    Archived on Soundview Communication Websites.
I am very curious of his opinions of
JIM – JOHN – DOM – and especially myself (being honest)

JIM is a LAWYER and most of us believe deluded and/or liar.

DOM – I believe was a pace horse, to make Harkins look good and attack Jim.

JOHN – is polished, sartarially appropriate, well mannered and genteel.
John knows how to appear impressive saying nothing.

GEORGE looks like an OGRE in a poorly fitted shirt/tie and is brutishly confrontational in Debates.
I chewed up Jim and to a lesser degree Dom and John, with specific
after specific, ranging from identifying problems to offering solutions.
YOU would be surprised at the people who told me I was the ONLY
ONE who MADE SENSE and TOLD the TRUTH.
I was never going to get their vote, because they wanted Miron out.
I did not try to be likeable, which is crucial, if your objective is to gain votes.

My objective was to lay out the facts as foundation for the future for
the people of Stratford, whether they realized it or not, and to try to
expose as much as I could and pre-empt theft and start to reverse damage
    that is cascading.

There are many liars and thieves in Stratford, who are taking advantage of
systemic corruption and who are witting and unwitting fools / tools.

Unfortunately too many citizens are too apathetic, ignorant, or lazy.

    Who have we elected?
Miron, Henrick, Feehan, Crudo, Norm, Cabrol, Lou,Schirillo, Burturla.
Amzing how they can be successful in their business, yet cost stratford….
    or is it ….
could it be their business benefits from unpaid volunteer …

  118. 121 1george1

I sent andersen and a couple of democrats I respect an e-mail
telling her that her mailer was FLUFF and PLATITUDES.

They were so inempt and general, I asked if she would come out
in favor of babies/kittens/puppies, flag waving, and school prayer?

    Laura’s mailers were LOL.
Her people caused most of the propblems in town, which Miron
and Burturla didn’t aid or abet…

    ABSOLUTELY nothing against them PERSONALLY.
However Laura is neck deep in RTC – Chamber cunctatation and
    manipulation.

    I didn’t bother to run ….
I lack the financial and logistical support.
I could not afford the position if I won (extremely unlikely)
If I did win, it would be ME against EVERYONE in HARTFORD!

(That is not in the people of Stratford’s best interest)
Best thing I can do for the people of Stratford (who I do NOT
claim to speak for), and workers, and the Town – is to try to
    pop the over story balloons. . . . .
    like my hero ED HARGUS
and like my other heroine DIANE BUDA did
and like Marcia tries to protect something innocent and long
time value for the future …

  119. 122 phineast

George-I know he was at 2 of the mayoral debates, I’ll ask him. He always has a little note pad with him making notations. Maybe he still has it.

  120. 123 1george1

    Phin
I would be curious about your friend’s mayoral notes:
    Good, Bad, Ugly, and Clueless.
    I admit to “ugly.”
You can ascribe as you choose …

    Phin
You have been one of the better posters of the blog.
    I welcome honest political disagreement.
    > During political debates, it is difficult to separate personal
    from professional attributes.
    > Notice that for decades the studios could have monitors
which detect truth / lies and body language?
    – Yet they do not ever use, because they are in bed …

As mentioned, someone I respect, but did not know until
the last couple of years, was at the SHS debate wanting
to hear reasons to vote Harkins.
He was with a friend I never met.
    The both scored the Debate
    1. Miron
    2. me
    3. John
    4. Dom – very badly

I suspect because they wanted Harkins to do well and had high
expectations, it could have hurt their perceptions?

The SHS + Oronoque (John did well there) gave me time to give
specifics unlike Christ Church or PYE, which Miron packed with
at least 60 % of the audience. (not complaining = fact)
At PYE, Pedoto was effective in getting me offstride. (Fair game)
But I had a good opening and did very well after I recovered.

Harkins + Jim + Dom + I were not able to be at same time for police
or fire unions (not sure if Jim was even invited to police?

I had fun with Dom at the police union meeting, baiting him into
atacking me with my serious mental problems (neck tire).

By the next debate at the Condo across from water treatment I
had prepped handouts to destroy that attack.

When he again got mad at me and questioned my mental capability,
the people groaned at him, giving me sympathy. Jim took note.

Those 2 were before PYE – ST Joseph.

Then came Baldwin for 3rd District = Save Stratford and OSNA @
Christ Church immediately after, on the same night.

Then we had SHS with Oronoque village the next day.

Friday afternoon was News 12. (I was stunned when Jimmy came in,
immediately wnet to the mirror, rubbed under his nose =, with index
finger across mustache area, stating he was checking for makeup?
( .. MAKE UP before YOU get to a STUDIO and after a car ride? .. )

I got my Jimmy = Pinnocchio nose = bigger than my stomach.
(Not many people picked the analogy that Pinnochio was a wooden
puppet, who yearned to be human and stringless….)

The next week was radio with Jim Buchanon.
Dom and Harkins improved. Jim seemed almost disinterested, but he
did attack John and Dom…. ignoring attacking me
(smart move to marginalize me as a very minor candidate)

    I would trade
Rowland, Ganim, and Ernie Newton straight up
    for
Miron, Feehan, Henrick, the ENTIRE RTC + DTC,
    every past Town Attorney/Manager/Dept Head,
    and a few others.

Yes it may include baby and bath water.,,,

    however silence is concent

there are sins and crimes of commission and ommission.

I have the legal precedents for Esq John Williams as to
    what constitutes conspiracy …..

  121. 124 jezebel282

At the risk of moving the discussion back to the topic, and after careful consideration, it is my opinion that Laura Hoydick is the best choice for State Representative.

Both candidates have devoted valuable and real effort to the Town of Stratford for years. They are both articulate and intelligent. It is actually refreshing to have such quality candidates to choose from.

Ms. Hoydick has moved from her original platform of “no” to a more positive approach of accomplishing goals for Stratford. We hope she continues to be an independent voice for Stratford and resists blanket opposition to anything proposed by the other party.

Sadly, Ms. Andersen has not dissociated herself from the usual DTC program. Her refusal to do so smacks of loyalty to the incompetence and corruption of the DTC gang. That does not earn votes in Stratford.

  122. 125 1george1

Laura Hoydick is the best choice for State Representative.

    I disagree.
I believe part of the political problems in Town.

Nothing against either lady as a person.
Again we have 2 bad choices of party people and not for Public Interest.
I know less about Anderson than Hoydic.
Having backing of Mirons / Burturlas is as damning, in my eyes
as having backing of the Be UTTER NUTS.

I believe the RTC + DTC leadership is filled with LIARS asnd THIEVES

  123. 126 1george1

But then why should stratford be different than the traitors and criminals
who populate the power positions throught the USA from funding?:

    Drugs – controlled / persecription – alcohol / tobacco
    Gambling – Vice
    Labor
    Weapons – Munitions
    Energy
    Finance
    Industry
    Agriculture
    Transportation
    Raw Materials
    Intellectual

The amaing part is this is also the best country in the world,
however the goose that lay golden eggs are being ….

  124. 127 sudds

Just a brief interuption to Jez’s diatribe about healthcare to remind everyone to

    VOTE TODAY!!!

    PS… as a reminder…

Andersen: supported-by/funded-by our late Mayor Jim Miron

Hoydick: NOT supported-by/NOT funded-by our late Mayor Jim Miron

  125. 128 jezebel282

    Sudds,

    It was not a diatribe.

    It was a monologue.

    So there.

    Andersen

    Update:

    BREAKING NEWS: Hoydick wins 120th

    Written by John Kovach
    Tuesday, 02 March 2010 21:19

Republican Laura Hoydick won the special election in the 120th General Assembly District Tuesday and will replace Mayor John Harkins in Hartford.

Hoydick unofficially finished with 58% of the vote, 1,949 ballots, to Democrat Janice Andersen’s 1,390 votes.

Republican legislators from across the state were in Hoydick’s headquarters on East Broadway when the former Stratford Chamber of Commerce director addressed the crowd.

The question is will the DTC learn anything? Yet another big loss simply because of Miron’s involvement. Probably not…..

  128. 131 1george1

Whatever happened to all of those OUTSPOKEN HARKINS Backers?

Did they crawl under a ROCK, as in some cases?

Do they feel betrayed to know the only real difference between
    Miron & Harkins, may be:
    1. Heather Habelka
    2. Adam Bauer
