In one of the worst kept secrets ever, Janet Robinson the superintendent of Newtown schools, was named as the new Stratford Superintendent of Schools. At a starting base salary of $210,000 per year, she is also the most expensive Superintendent of Stratford schools…ever. While some “savings” in the BOE budget have been achieved by shifting healthcare costs onto BOE employees, there remains much more real work to be done. Also, by every account, morale throughout the BOE has been left in ruins by the former superintendent, Irene Cornish.
At this point we can only hope that Ms. Robinson builds upon the masterful repair work begun by Margaret Lasek, the interim superintendent. A good place to start would be here:

$200K should not be the minimum when the current economic condition of Stratford is taken into consideration! That is absolutely ridiculous. Our salaries are way out of range for both the BOE administration and the Town administration. The budget that has been “approved” by the BOE board and passed on to the Town Council has the $210,000 salary for the Superintendent listed. What if the Town Council kicks it back and says cuts need to be made? If Janet Robinson enters into this contract at a salary of $210,000 – cuts will need to be made elsewhere and it will affect our children in some way.
Janet Robinson’s contract with Newtown was not going to be renewed – that was published in a Newtown newspaper in the summer. A search about her contract not being renewed brought up an interesting article from the Newtown Bee. I suggest you all read it!

Nah. Your property taxes are way too high. Maybe if you lived in Shelton….
There are 40 administrators totaling $4.8 million in the BOE budget. That doesn’t include the superintendent or the variety of “coordinators”. The lowest paid assistant principal is budgeted at $102K and it rises to $121K. That’s more than the mayor, Fire Chief or Police Chief.
In the meantime, it appears that the total spent on textbooks is approximately $88 per year per student. ($648,811 divided by 7,401 = $87.66. At they say at the BOE, “Do the math”.)
